River Country (Closed)

river-country-map.jpg

  • Currently there are two unique water adventures available at the Walt Disney World Resort – Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. There used to be three water parks, but the original water park, River Country, has been permanently closed.
  • Upstream Plunge, a 330,000 gallon heated swimming pool is located in the now-closed River Country. It was located between the main entrance and Bay Cove and housed two steep water slides that drop swimmers of in a free fall splashdown.
  • The first of Disney’s water parks, River Country, opened in 1976. Typhoon Lagoon opened in June of 1989, while Blizzard Beach opened in April 1995.

Disney’s River Country was billed as, “… a slippin’, slidin’ all-American Water Park with all the simple pleasures of Huck Finn’s dreams. This is the perfect swimming spot, with plenty of slippery slides and waterfalls to make anyone whoop and holler into the water. Even a relaxing white-sand beach!”

  • Whoop ‘n’ Holler Hollow – Twistin’ ‘n’ turnin’ corkscrew body slides.
  • Bay Cove – All kinds of ol’-fashioned watery fun.
  • Slippery Slide Falls – Two slides that sploosh you into the Upstream Plunge.
