- Billy Barty, the voice of the the original Figment from Journey Into Imagination, was considered to be one of the most recognized and talented “little people” of all time. Throughout his 70 years career, he appeared in radio, on Broadway, an in television and movies. He appeared in such films as Life Stinks (1991), The Rescuers Down Under (1990), UHF (1989), Willow (1988), Legend (1985), Under the Rainbow (1981), Alice in Wonderland (1933), and Busby Berkeley’s Footlight Parade (1933). His TV credits include “Sigmund and the Sea Monsters”, “The Bugaloos”, and “H.R. Pufnstuf.” In 1982, he provide the voice of Figment, the little purple dragon from Journey Into Imagination that takes you through the imagination process.
- “Magic Journeys” was a 3D movie that premiered in Epcot’s Journey into Imagination pavilion. It was replaced by Michael Jackson’s Captain EO, but was moved to the Magic Kingdom in 1987. It ran in the Fantasyland Theatre until December 1, 1993, when it was removed in preparation for the Legend of the Lion King show.
- Although the Journey Into Imagination pavilion opened on October 1, 1982 with the Magic Journeys film, the Journey Into Imagination RIDE didn’t open until March 5, 1983. The Journey Into Imagination ride closed in 1998 for renovation, and the pavilion was renamed simply “Imagination!” The ride later closed once again and reopened in June of 2002 as Journey Into Imagination with Figment.
