WDW News, Top 10 Smells of Walt Disney World, Listener Emails

Welcome to the WDW Radio Show – your Walt Disney World Information Station. This is show #75 for the week of July 13, 2008. I am your host Lou Mongello, bringing you the very best ways to enjoy and enhance your Walt Disney World vacation experience in a fun, family-friendly weekly show.

We’ll begin with News from around Walt Disney World about some enhancements, additions, and closings happening around the parks.

This week, we have another Top 10 segment, but one that’s just a bit different from some of those we’ve done in the past. Tim Foster joins me once again, but this time we’re going to look at the Top 10 smells of Walt Disney World. And it’s not all going to be about food, as there are just some amazing scents that I’m sure you’ll agree make you think of or enjoy Walt Disney World.

It’s been a few weeks since I answered some of your listener emails on the air, so Jeff Pepper will join me to respond to many of your questions,

So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

I’ve listened to this episode a number of times. Just listening to someone talk about smells brings it all back. Weird.

  2. Briana says:

Pirates has a very, very distinctive smell. Most of the rides do, and I forget most until I’m back in them!

  3. Amanda says:

Rome burning–definitely one of my favorites! I check each time I ride to see if it’s working. I totally understand the water smell! For my family it’s just the “Disney Water Smell” and we tend to find it on the water attractions–Pirates, Small World, and Living With the Land. LWTL is one of my all time favorites at Epcot specifically for that scent! (Well, that and the overall “fresh” scent in the greenhouses) Also, the Land Pavilion in general has a unique scent–sort of a mix of earthy/Disney Water/food from Sunshine Seasons & Garden Grill–we love it! Lastly, it wasn’t mentioned but one scent that I think of when I think of Disney is the greasy/oily scent at the loading and unloading areas of Spaceship Earth. It’s pretty distinct. You can sometimes catch it when you’re waiting in the queue too, especially when you are getting close to the painted mural.

Can’t help but love the smells of WDW. All I have to do is think of an attraction, show, etc. and a smell immediately comes to mind. Was watching a ride-through video for Pirates at lunch today and couldn’t help but think of the musty water smell. Amazing. The apple pie smell in Mickey’s Philharmagic 3D show, popcorn and caramel on Main Street U.S.A. are other smells that jump to mind. Thanks again, for another terrific show, Lou!!!
