I know you’re thinking that I went to see “Up†again, but no, this isn’t a story about Dug. This is a tale about meeting a fellow Disney geek at a WDW Radio Meet and finding a new friend. I’m sure my family is aghast that I have again picked up a conversation with a stranger. My daughter still can’t believe that I talked to the man from England with whom I shared a car on Expedition Everest last week, but I digress.
I’ve come to realize that the “Do Not Talk to Strangers†rule may not apply when visiting Walt Disney World. I love to chat with perfect strangers in cues and while sharing a seat on an attraction. How else can one share this perfectly wonderful trivia that is gathered from listening to hours of podcasts and perusing the forums? By now our family members have long ago lost interest in our plethora of knowledge, so we have to find other Disneyphiles with whom we can converse. Granted, you need to feel that the other person is ready to talk to a complete stranger, but being strapped into a seat does heighten the expectation that they’ll either succumb to the urge or they will find that a 90 second ride will seem to last a lot longer.Â
And so it happens that today I meet a perfectly wonderful fellow WDW Radio listener who is traveling on her own. We hit it off immediately and opted to spend the rest of the afternoon experiencing attractions, eating, and watching street entertainment. There is something exciting about sharing ideas and experiences from visits to any of the Walt Disney World parks. It’s unusual that two families always choose to eat at the same restaurants or HAVE to visit the same attractions, so when you make your way around a park with someone new, you tend to see the park in a new way as well.
So all the single ladies (and gents) or at least those guests traveling without your regular family members or friends, take heart.
You’re not going to the park alone.
You just haven’t met your new best friend yet.
