Video: Captain EO returns to Walt Disney World

July 6th, 2010 @ 12:22 pm by Lou Mongello

Michael Jackson, the king of pop, has passed away, but his character CAPTAIN EO is alive again in Epcot’s Future World. He’s back and ready to save the world once again.

“Captain EO,” the classic musical spectacular that thrilled Epcot guests from 1986-1994, has returned to Epcot for a special open-ended run.  The attraction’s return provides new audiences the opportunity to experience the original 3-D production for the very first time, as well as a nostalgic look back for longtime fans wanting to see Michael Jackson in a rare performance created for the big screen.

As soon as I stop laughing, I’m going to tell you how much I love the sight of you trying to moonwalk!

Great video Lou! Loved the fact that they are using the original sign at the attraction!! You might want to work on the moonwalk though ;) …. ‘A’ for effort nonetheless

I love how the Tron monorail was timed perfectly at the end. LOL

Great video! I can’t wait to see it again this weekend! Lou’s moonwalk was pretty good!

Great video…

Great video! we need more Lou Moonwalking. Is this like Pixar? Was the Tronorail added in at the end as a precursor of what’s to come?

I remember Captain EO!! I can’t wait to see it again but the best thing that I remember was the smoke and lasers. I hear that they are not there anymore, sad. Keep up the good work Lou!!

love the video Lou!

i cant wait to see EO when we hit epcot in october :)

So excited about this and am hoping they will extend through October- when we are down for MNSSHP… I have a 7 year old daughter that is crazy obsessed with MJ (bday was Michael Jackson this is it themed, bedroom is all MJ)- and I know she will FREAK OUT if she can see this!! AND I am so excited there is Captain EO merchandise… will totally have to save some money for a shirt for her!

I am behind on the podcasts, so I just got to this show.

I had the Captain EO film on DVD courtesy a Extinct Attractions Club DVD about the original Imagination pavilion, so my kids have known the film. Due to that, my three kids are very familiar with the film. When we found out it was coming to Epcot this summer, I started thinking about making a trip down. When we found out the Main Street Electrical Parade was coming, which is another extinct attraction that my kids (my son especially, who is 9) have been enjoying at home in videos and music, we decided to make it happen. A chance for my kids to see two things I remembered vividly from when I was a kid. That’s why a retrospective can be very nice from time to time, as much as I dislike Disney repeating themselves.
