Show # 182 – August 8, 2010

August 8th, 2010 @ 11:25 pm by Lou Mongello

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show – Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #182 for the week of August 8, 2010.

We’ll start off this week’s show with a visit to what has recently become one of my favorite areas of the Magic Kingdom, as we look at the Top Ten Things We Love About Liberty Square. Beyond the Haunted Mansion, it is a land filled with incredible details, historical importance, and wonderful opportunities.

I’ll then take you to the waters of the Seven Seas Lagoon and aboard the Grand One, the most luxurious watercraft at Walt Disney World, as we explore how this cruising experience is perfect for parties, a romantic evening and special occasions.

I’ll announce the winner of our last Walt Disney World Trivia Contest, have a few announcements and then play more of your voicemails at the end of the show. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week!

Hey Lou !!
Really enjoy listening to your show each month !! Makes me wish that I lived on Main Street at the Magic Kingdom !! During the show this month, you discussed Liberty Square. I recently took the “Keys to the Kingdom” tour and found out a very interesting fact. Our guide, Matthew, told us about the windows in some of the buildings, that are small panes and appear to be a type of leaded or thicker glass. He said that these window panes were salvaged from some existing buildings on the property when Disney purchased it. The thought of completely demolishing the buildings without saving part of their “history” was not acceptable, so the glass was saved and now lives on in Walt Disney World at the Magic Kingdom !! You probably already knew all of this, but I still wanted to write. Look forward to the next show !!!!

God Bless,

Hey Lou, just wanted to say that you managed to turn an over looked part of the park into a trivia hunt.
When you announced that it would be the top ten of liberty square, I thought “hang on there is only 3 attractions….. Mansion, Boat, Presidents”, that was going to be a lot of filler to join up the gaps.

As always you did good.

AL

Lou, thanks for mentioning the Mike Fink Keelboats during the Liberty Square segment. It’s nice to know someone still cares.

After listening 3 times, I still must have missed a few things… apparently I need these things written out.
1) Haunted Mansion
2) Hall of Presidents
3) Ye Olde Christmas store
4) Liberty Belle Riverboat
5) Liberty Tree Tavern
6) Columbia Harbor House
7) Funnel cake stand?????

I don’t remember hearing some of these, but I know they are there.
Seems like there are not enough attractions for a top 10 list, maybe better suited for a top 5 list. That are some of the others?

I missed the Liberty Bell in the last post, we spent a while there last visit watching Spectromagic, what a great vantage point as the parade wraps around you. Only downside is you are stuck in that area until the parade is over, but I got some great video.

Is there anything for Magic Kingdom like the pontoon boats at Epcot World Showcase for watching Illuminations. On one visit we watched the show from International Gateway bridge at Epcot and noticed there were pontoon boats parked under the bridge to watch the Illuminations show. I think the Water Mice/Sea Racers (on Bay Lake & Seven Seas lagoon) do not run in the evenings. Do they have something equivalent to the pontoons for watching Wishes?
