Listen to the Show

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show – Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #185 for the week of August 29, 2010.

This week, we’re going to visit with the first real wizard in to make his home in central Florida, as we step aboard the Walt Disney World Wayback Machine and talk with Merlin, from Disney’s Sword in the Stone. Merlin crowned the Temporary Ruler of the Realm for many years in Fantasyland, and we’ll talk one on one with a truly magical man who played Merlin – Jim Korkis. He’ll tell us about the show, what it was like to play Merlin, and we also get a chance to learn more about the man who is a real magician, Disney historian and true storyteller.

I’ll give you the answers to the clues and announce the winner of our last Walt Disney World contest, have a few announcements and then play more of your voicemails at the end of the show. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week!

This is one picture that I took on December 13th, 2005. It was the last time I saw the show. I have more pictures if this post works. 🙂

I have a photo of my son with Merlin and I would love to know if it is Jim Korkis? I also still do have the medallion that he was given after he was picked for the show. Thanks for bringing back some great memories!

My son was picked Ruler of the Realm on December 13, 2005! I would love to see Todd’s picture. Maybe it was our show. But I don’t know how to link to his post…

Jim, you are so right on the money with your thoughts on the live shows at Disney World. I remember my wife and I catching it without any advance knowledge and being charmed. Alas, when we our kids came along the show was alreday gone. The Merlin show, the shootout in Frontierland, didn’t there used to be something in Liberty Square- Ben Franklin maybe? They helped make Disney World something different from anywhere else.

  12. Chuck Zitta says:

Always enjoyed Sword in the Stone. Yes, bringing back Merlin would be fantastic. Maybe Madam Mim would be fun to add into the mix as well. How much fun would that be for those in the park to observe/be entertained by as they’re walking by (they may even stop to watch). I agree, human interaction needs to be bumped back up into the parks. Would add another layer of Magic to the experience. Our society seems to be moving further and further away from human interaction (face to face) due to technological advances. This, I have especially noticed in my kids generation. We need to get back to ‘it’. The movie Wall-E touches on this. People being carted around with screens in their faces. Totally unaware of what’s going on in their immediate surroundings. Kind of like people and electronic devices today, eh? Thanks again for another fantastic show, Lou and Jim!!!
