Disney Legend Alice Davis Interview

Alice Davis interview - Disney Legend

In the next of my Legends of Disney Imagineering series of interviews, I had the honor of spending the day with a fascinating woman and true Legend, Alice Davis. We’ll discuss her fairy tale story of how she came to work for and with Walt Disney through her marriage to Marc Davis, one of his Nine Old Men. In addition to discussing her relationships with both, we also closely examine her work on classic films such as Sleeping Beauty, and attractions such as it’s a small world and Pirates of the Caribbean. Alice shares her very personal stories and humorous anecdotes about her work and life, from her early beginnings to the World’s Fair, to her ongoing connection to Disney enthusiasts today.

I’ll have a few announcements and then play more of your voicemails at the end of the show. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week!

This is the first WDWR podcast I’ve heard where Lou ‘bleeped’ someone. Who would’ve thought sweet little Alice Davis would need to censored. Her story about problems with pirate’s pants was hilarious. No one pays attention to detail like Disney, even details you can’t see (or at least aren’t supposed to see). Too bad Walt wasn’t there, it would be interesting to know his reaction. I suspect he would have cracked up.

This was such a great episode Lou! Thank you so much for bringing us this interview… I listened to it on the train this morning & admit I got a bit teary-eyed when she explained her ties to the ‘Up’ movie πŸ™‚

I had to rewind the ‘censored’ part to work out what had happened to the audio… how funny that she told you that story!! πŸ˜‰

    amazing podcast, as always πŸ™‚

Holy smokes was that fantastic! I was hanging on her every word. Such a great interview. Thank you so much Lou. And congratulations on such a great interview.

It was a good thing I listened to this one alone in my car. “Oh My Goodness”, “Oh no” and “awwwww” were blurted out several times. The stories were so great.

I loved this podcast. I have never been disappointed by your interviews with Disney personalities. It is partly because of your interview talents but a tribute to the wonderful folks you have chosen to interview. I noticed in the photograph of you with Alice Davis that you found someone to interview that was shorter than you. I too teared when I heard her connection with the movie “Up.” Plus I now have some trivia about the “Pirates of the Caribbean” ride I don’t think any of my friends know.

LOVED the interview with Alice Davis. She is so delightful and so gracious. SO many great tidbits and stories its hard to pick which one I enjoyed the most. But her connection to UP has to be way up on the list (no pun intended). That is one of my favorite Disney movies by far. How wonderful for her and her husband’s marriage to be memorialized in that way.

I wish I could have seen your face when she told the Pirates story πŸ™‚

What a great interview! I loved the -ahem- “extra” bit about the auctioneer in POTC. I had never heard that before. Let’s just say that using a hacksaw is a difficult solution to propose to any male.

  11. Chuck Zitta says:

Found it very interesting that Pixar wanted to observe the Davis’ house to study their lifestyles for the movie UP! With that said, now it all makes sense. I can see Marc and Alice in the movie (how they live, their interests in traveling, etc.). What a WOW moment! Great stuff!!! Fantastic interview, Lou!!! Thank you.
