Exploring the UK Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase – Fantasy or Reality?

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show – Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #202 for the week of December 26, 2010.

As we wander the promenade and explore the pavilions of World Showcase in Epcot, we find ourselves transported across the globe to exotic destinations around the world. In doing so, we are afforded the opportunity to share in and learn about the people and their culture through attractions, exhibits, their food and even direct communication with those that call these places home. But as we do so, sometimes we wonder just how much these pavilions actually reflect the regions upon which they are based. This week, we will explore one of these pavilions with guests who hail from the United Kingdom. We will wander the streets and tour the interiors of these buildings to look at how, how well, and why these landmarks and extraordinary details exist.

I’ll have a few announcements and play some of your voicemails at the end of the show, so sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week!

Looking forward to listening to this one …as a resident and citizen of the UK…

    Loved the UK segment!

HP sauce is on the tables at the Tampa location of Earl of Sandwich. I’ve never seen it at the DTD Earl of Sandwich… maybe they have it behind the counter on request? I LOVE the stuff, especially on Earl’s ‘The Original’ sandwich. The closest thing I think we have in the States would be A1 sauce, but HP sauce is SO much better. I wish they sold it in the supermarkets.

I could listen to Emma & Marc’s accents for hours. It was awesome meeting them at the 200th show Meet of the Month. Thanks for the great segment, Lou!

This show was awesome. This would be an awesome series, if you reviewed each country in world showcase with fans from the respective countries. I love the idea that as you visit world showcase that you are “visiting” each country and learning something about each. Keep up the great work Lou.

I loved this show. With my parents being from Scotland it hit close to home. We used to get this sausage (no,not blood sausage)when I was a child, It was a flat pattie and rectangular(mmm delicious). I wish I could find it again. I never knew A1 existed, it was always HP (House of Parliament) and nobody knew what I was talking about when I would ask for it. We still get it at British food stores. And I always loaded my fries(crisps) with salt, vinegar and ketchup. Keep it up Lou!!!

Ken, I think you mean Lorne Sausage!

I think the World Showcase stop for the UK really represents the architecture of the south of England. Its really odd to see your own country reflected back at you!

Our last visit down, I have a couple memories related to the United Kingdom. 1) It was the first place we ate at, as we made our way from the Beach Club Resort to the Monorail – fish and chips at the cart. 2)A cold start to dinner outside, but finally ended up inside with a Scotch Egg! 3) Bidding my mom and step father farewell, as they headed back to their room at Beach Club Resort to check out and drive back home (it was pouring rain when we said our goodbye’s in the United Kingdom. How appropriate). It was the end of a short 3 day visit from my mom and her husband; who came over from the Tampa area to see us at WDW, while we were down from Michigan for a 10 day vacation. Enjoyed the show. Got a little hungry towards the end with the Fish and Chips:0) Thanks again, Lou for another spectacular show!!!
