Disney’s Wilderness Lodge – History, Stories and Details

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show – Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #208 for the week of February 6, 2011.

When we talk about Walt Disney World, although often unnoticed by many guests, “everything speaks,” which means that everything we see and experience has and tells a story. From the attractions to the surroundings, there is meaning and reason behind their creation, and that also holds true for the Disney resorts. One of the very best examples of themed Imagineering, and storytelling based in reality is at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. From the story of the design, inspiration and creation of the Lodge itself, to the stories that the entire property tells, this week, Jim Korkis and I visit the resort and share the history of the Lodge, tour the lobby which has its own tale to tell, and explore the story behind the story of the Pacific Northwest resort

I’ll have a few announcements including details about upcoming Meets of the Month in Walt Disney World, and then play some of your voicemails at the end of the show, so sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week!

    Hey Lou,
My wife and I just returned from Disney World Wednesday Februrary 9. We have been to Disney World 25 times since 1995. We just enjoyed the best street entertainment that we have ever seen in all of our visits. Cinderellas step sisters and step mother are signing autographs near the Castle in Magic Kingdom. They are very clever and very funny. We enjoyed them more than any Disney show ever. They are another Disney treasure. We listened to your five audio guides in the week before going and that was very fun also.
Thank you for the great podcasts and the wonderful Celebrations Magazines.

  2. Lucas says:

Did anyone else notice that Jim Korkis said “Lewis and Carrol” instead of “Lewis and Clark?”

  3. Nick says:

Lucas, I did as well, and thought it was pretty funny. I mean, Walt did love Lewis Carrol.

  4. Nick says:

He also said “11 out of 10 guests”… must have been an off night.

  5. Chuck Zitta says:

Enjoyed Jim’s story of the totem pole. Last time down, we had dinner at the Whispering Canyon Cafe. What a good time that was! Good food too! Some day I hope to book us for a stay at the Wilderness Lodge. Beautiful facility. Thanks again for another fantastic show, Lou and Jim!!!
