Disney’s Wilderness Lodge – History, Stories and Details

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show – Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #208 for the week of February 6, 2011.

When we talk about Walt Disney World, although often unnoticed by many guests, “everything speaks,” which means that everything we see and experience has and tells a story. From the attractions to the surroundings, there is meaning and reason behind their creation, and that also holds true for the Disney resorts. One of the very best examples of themed Imagineering, and storytelling based in reality is at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. From the story of the design, inspiration and creation of the Lodge itself, to the stories that the entire property tells, this week, Jim Korkis and I visit the resort and share the history of the Lodge, tour the lobby which has its own tale to tell, and explore the story behind the story of the Pacific Northwest resort.

In this episode of WDW Radio, we explore Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, one of Walt Disney World’s most iconic resorts. Join host Lou Mongello as he takes you on a tour of this majestic lodge, highlighting its architecture, theming, and amenities.

Key Points:

  1. History of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge: Lou Mongello delves into the history of the resort, which was inspired by the national park lodges of the American West.
  2. Architecture and Theming: The lodge features stunning architecture, with massive totem poles, a six-story fireplace, and a geyser that erupts every hour. The theming is also impressive, with nods to Native American and Pacific Northwest cultures.
  3. Accommodations: The Wilderness Lodge offers a range of accommodations, from standard rooms to villas and suites. Lou describes the amenities of each type of room and shares his personal recommendations.
  4. Dining: The lodge is home to several dining options, including the popular Whispering Canyon Cafe and Artist Point, a signature dining restaurant. Lou provides a detailed review of each restaurant and offers tips for making reservations.
  5. Recreation: From the resort’s pools and hot tubs to its fitness center and bike rentals, there are plenty of ways to stay active during your stay at the Wilderness Lodge. Lou highlights some of the most popular activities and shares his favorites.
  6. Nearby Attractions: The Wilderness Lodge is conveniently located near many of Walt Disney World’s top attractions, including Magic Kingdom and Disney Springs. Lou shares tips for getting around the resort and exploring the surrounding area.
