WDW Radio Disney Book Club– Kingdom Keepers IV, Chapters 3 & 4 Questions and Chapter 2 Recap

Disney Book Club

Welcome back!  We hope you are enjoying Kingdom Keepers!  The story is becoming quite dramatic and in the next couple chapters, we certainly will be able to imagine some of our Disney characters behaving differently from what we may have imagined!

Last week’s replies to the discussion questions certainly suggest we have a group of very passionate Disney fans participating in this book club!   Paul, for example, has created a little acronym for himself: “I would classify myself as a ‘Huge Fan of Everything Disney’ (HFED). I spend several hours a week listening to Disney Podcasts (including WDW Radio), listening to numerous Disney Theme Park internet music stations, collecting Disney Movies, and joining almost any club/organization that Disney has.”  Mark had a humorous way of describing his level of affection, “Does Uber-Ultra-Geek-Nerd-Fanboy-Nut say enough? ;-D”  It is nice being among a wonderful group of people who understand the magic of Disney!

Additionally, it seems as though the adult members of this group would be quite supportive parents to prospective Kingdom Keepers!  Proud and concerned seemed to be the consistent themes among the adult members.  Sherri had an interesting observation:  “I would, as a parent, be thrilled on one hand for my children to be asked to be kingdom keepers. What an honor and an opportunity. On the other hand, I would hate to see their love for Disney become a chore. I would be worried that the job would make them resent or tire of Disney. I would also worry that some fo the magic would be gone for them.”  Amanda probably channeled some of our inner Disney fan when she said, “My reaction to my child would be ‘NO WAY! You get to go into the parks when no one else is there!’ I would be worried as well of course but that would be my first reaction.”

The younger members, too, were eager to imagine themselves as part of this heroic tribe, though they were not convinced their parents would entirely believe them.  As Kim said, “I could have twisted the truth a little bit but my mother most likely wouldn’t believe it unless if she saw it, but most likely, I would tell her flat out about the side effects of becoming a DHI, And just try to convince her I am not lying…..”  Anthony also anticipated disbelief on the part of his parents, when he said, “Like Finn’s mother, she would probably not believe me or laugh. To make her believe me, I would cross over into my DHI state and show her everything that is going on.”

Regarding EPCOT at night, a wide variety of attractions were named as places to explore at night.  From the nations of World Showcase to the attractions in Future World, we are eager to check them all out “after hours.”  This is a true sign of an amazing park that has quite a group of devoted fans!

Thanks to all who replied!  We love hearing from you, so please continue to add your thoughts or suggest your own discussion questions!

The reading for the week of April 25-May 1 is Chapters 3-4, pages 101-141.  Characters start changing before our eyes, and you’ll find the pages just start flying by!  Find below our discussion questions for these chapters.  Again, you are welcome to respond to some—or all—of the questions and post your thoughts in the blog.  Please feel free to add your own questions as well!

  1. Much attention is devoted to the drawing Jess created on the napkin.  Make a prediction about the identity of the person on the napkin.   What leads you to make this prediction?
  2. When Willa suggested that Mickey Mouse was the leader for the characters, Ariel’s demeanor changed.  “Ariel locked into a distant stare.  She’d gone somewhere far away.  ‘We can discuss this another time, I think.’” (Pg. 140).  What do you think this means about our favorite Mouse?
  3. In Chapter 4, Ridley Pearson describes the Green Army men marching down Sunset Boulevard, like so many parades have done.  What is your favorite Walt Disney World parade you have ever seen?  Why did (do) you enjoy it?

Thanks again for participating!  We will shortly be announcing a CONTEST for Book Club participants and launching a Facebook page, so stay tuned and check the blog often!  We also are eager for suggestions for the next book club selection.  If you have an idea about a future book or a comment on the book club in general, please contact Christy at Christy@WDWRadio.com.  Have a great week everyone!!  8:)
