Disney’s D23 Expo – Preview, planning, tips and roundtable discussion

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show – Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #230 for the week of July 10, 2011.

Disney’s D23 Expo, the 3-day event taking place in Anaheim, California in just a few weeks marks the second time the signature event for Disney’s fan community will take place. Having attended as both a guest and exhibitor during the first Expo in 2009, I enjoyed one of my best overall experiences as a Disney fan. I’m going back again to this year’s Expo with both a booth on the floor, and an excited enthusiast as well. For people going for the first time, or even returning to this year’s Expo, and even people who will be watching our live coverage online, this week we have a roundtable discussion with people who were at the Expo in 2009 about preparing for the Expo, what we’re hoping to see, tips to get the most out of the experience, what’s new, our “wish list” of what we’d like to see and lots more.

I’ll have a few announcements before playing some of your voicemails at the end of the show. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show

Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week!

Question for YOU: Are you going to the D23 Expo? Why or why not? What (or who) are you most looking forward to seeing? What is on your “wish list” of things to see and do?

I just wanted to say how excited I am for this year’s D23 Expo inside the box. I was inside the box back in 2009 and had a great experience seeing everyone out there and hearing the news and excitement you would bring back after a talk. I truly felt like I was there! My favorite part of being in the box was all the people that we “met” through the experience of walking around to all the booths and getting to virtually experience everything from the vendors, the Fairytale Wedding booth, and the talking to the Red Queen! 😀 I really hope we get to “walk” around again! Can’t wait for D23!!

Hi Lou! It was great to meet you and all of the other Disney fans at the 2009 D23 Expo, even those in the box! Across the four days, I dressed up as Snow White, Jasmine and Village Belle, and my husband dressed up as Aladdin and Indiana Jones; you captured us “in the box” as we were headed into an arena presentation!

We also met a couple of other times during the Expo, and as WDW Radio listeners, it was great to meet you in person. Thanks for bringing back lots of great 2009 Expo memories with show #230, and I look forward to creating some new ones at the upcoming 2011 Expo–less than a month away!

PS. Being a Disney fan, I have a new costume or two up my sleeve!

Thanks for sharing your love of DIsney,

It was a Disney event; would you really expect anything else, but lines? Isn’t that part of our culture? Sounds like they needed queues, to keep people occupied. LOL!!! Temporary queues; now that would be impressive. Regardless, I’m sure everyone’s adrenaline took over, and the lines were just a minor formality amongst all the Disney Magic that surrounded them. Sounds like an incredible experience. Thanks once again, Lou and all your guests, for another terrific show!!!

If the timing works out correctly, Lou Mongello could possibly be doing his 500th show around the time of D23 in 2017!!! Always love the D23 recaps. Listening to the Imagineers and seeing the exhibits from the archives would be worth the price of admission alone. Enjoyed watching WDW Radio online in 2015.
