Live Restaurant Review – The Plaza Restaurant

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show – Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #253 for the week of December 18, 2011.

Walt Disney World is full of hidden treasures, including some restaurants that may often be overlooked by guests. This week, we’re going to do a live restaurant review of the Plaza Restaurant in the Magic Kingdom. I’ll look at the decor, menu, value, location, and of course, review the food live with a recent WDW Radio contest winner.

I’ll have a few announcements, information about WDW Radio events during next month’s Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, and then play more of your voicemails at the end of the show. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show

Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week!

  1. Jen Tremley says:

Yes I have dined at The Plaza Restaurant and its awesome! Its quaint and has good wholesome comfort foods, while overlooking Cinderella Castle. Great, great place for a table service meal. Very overlooked.

  2. Patti (pdubster) says:

The mobility of desserts – it’s come to that, huh, Lou? But come to think of it, that IS a good podcast topic. Booyah!

  3. Patti (pdubster) says:

Can’t you just see the staff googling Lou in the back room? “Who IS that guy?”

And the crunching of that Reuben was in IMAX! Wish I could’ve smelled it!

Grrreat review, by the way! I’d really enjoy hearing/seeing more of these firsthand reviews.

  4. Sarah (Kingdomkitty) says:

We ate at The Plaza TWICE during our trip to WDW, it was that good! It has great comfort food and a variety of choices to please anyone. As Jen mentioned, it has an AWESOME view of the castle while you dine. I enjoyed the chicken strawberry salad, other members of my party got the meatloaf (two thumbs up from them!), and another person even had room for an ice cream dessert! Definitely a great place to eat and take a break from touring. :)

  5. AuroraDancer says:

Don’t be telling everyone about how fabulous The Plaza is. It is my secret favorite place to eat in the middle of the Magic Kingdom, I love to sit in there and relax for a simple but yummy meal.

  6. frank says:

What a great idea to have dinner at the Plaza during Wishes! Can you hear Wishes soundtrack from inside restaurant?

  7. FrankVC says:

Frank – no we couldn’t really hear the music. Not like ‘Ohana and other places that pipe it in. It was a great view from the atrium area, especially after Lou graciously switched seats. Plus we kept talking about the food. -Frank

  8. FrankVC says:

Frank — No we could not hear the soundtrack as well as you can in restaurants where they pipe it in, like ‘Ohana. It was a great view from the atrium, especially after Lou graciously switched seats with me. You could also get a good view of the holiday lights show on the the castle after Wishes!. — Frank

  9. D.J. says:

We ate at The Plaza in August. We had reservations there and arrived at the restaurant just as a huge storm was building up. The place was all filled up and we got in just as it burst. We were seated in the back right by the huge window that offers a view of the castle. We also got to watch all the people running for cover from the rain. The food was fantastic! I had a huge order of meatloaf and mashed potatoes followed by an amazing brownie and hot fudge sundae. Couldn’t of been happier.

  10. Julie says:

Yes, we’ve eaten at the Plaza, and like AuroraDancer, I’m a little peeved that you’re giving away our “secret” place! The food is not “fancy,” but it’s good, and as vegetarians, I think it’s safe to say they have something for everyone there. The location can’t be beat, either. Great for couples, families, kids, whoever. Oh, wait, no, I meant to say, it’s TERRIBLE! Don’t go there!

  11. Tony E says:

Have an ADR for lunch at the plaza on Sept. 14. I am SO getting the cheesecake

  12. Tony E says:

    Post-ADR review.

I had the Tomato soup and it was TO DIE FOR!.

The Rueben was very flavorful and the homemade chips were excellent.

Like I said above, I got the cheesecake and it was easily the best cheesecake I ever had in my life! I’m a self-proclaimed cheesecake snob and it exceeded all my expectations.
