Live Restaurant Review of the ABC Commissary, Trivia Contest, CarsLand info and more!

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show – Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #278 for the week of June 10, 2012.

Join us around the table for a little different live restaurant review from Walt Disney World, as this week we experience our first live review at a counter-service restaurant in the parks. So join us as we stroll down Commissary Lane at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, for our live lunch review of the ABC Commissary. We sample the menus for adults and kids, discuss the theming, value, options and more.

I’ll have the answer and winner for last week’s Walt Disney World Trivia Question of the Week, and pose a new one for your chance to win a Disney prize package.

I’ll explain why this week’s show is a little shorter than usual as I am getting ready to bring you live, full coverage of the opening of CarsLand at Disney California Adventure Park in Disneyland later this week, so be sure and stay for the announcements and your voicemails at the end of the show. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week!

  1. I actually like the shorter format, Lou!

  2. Love this restaurant! The menu is unique and the food is really yummy so we make a point to stop in for lunch at least once each trip to WDW.

  3. Oh,and I loved hearing your children’s cute little voices. Adorable little Disney fans!

  4. Ellen Hildenbrand says:

The ABC Commissary has long been a family favorite for us. We also love the Backlot Express in Hollywood Studios.

  5. When I used to come for Super Soap Weekend and literally spend the entire weekend at MGM (still not Disney Studios to me) my favorite lunch stop was ABC Commissary, for all the reasons you mentioned. My go-to dish was the battered fish, but the burgers were good, too and I think they used to have a noodle bowl and a Cuban sandwich that were good.

During SSW, they also used to have the Soap Shop in the front of the Commissary to the right of the order counter, where you could buy costumes and props from the shows. It was fun to look at the costumes which were labeled with the show and episode they were worn on, and who wore them. Soap Stars obviously don’t eat at the Commissary, as most of these clothes were TINY! I recall seeing a pair of shorts Kelly Ripa wore as Haley on All My children that were girls size 12! This was obviously pre-children, lol! I don’t know if they ever have other events in the Commissary like that, but I know that it’s large enough that they can. Great memories!

I agree that it was fun to hear your family on the podcast. You should do a show from a kid’s perspective, i.e. best ride, scariest ride, favorite park, favorite thing to do outside the park, etc. That would be fun.

  6. I also like the shorter format. I understand long shows for interviews, but this was a good length for a restaurant review.

  7. Great review, but I hope the short format remains the exception: more show equals more fun!

Going to be checking Twitter and watching your Cars Land broadcasts! My family and I are going to Disneyland Resort at the end of June, and I can’t wait to see and hear your coverage of the Cars Land attractions and food! Looking forward to your thoughts on Radiator Springs Racers and that Dill Pickle Popcorn… :)

  8. Jim Hoffman says:

    Great show as always.

  9. jenifer moyer says:

wow this is a hard one, there is quite a few quick service resturants located at disney world that me and family really enjoy but i would have to say that our all time favorite is cosmic ray’s. why you ask ? because of the variety. me and my husband both enjoy the bbq and my kids both enjoy the chicken and burgers so this stop really works for us all and makes everyone happy. This is a must do lunch stop for us at the magic kingdom.

  10. My favorite resturant (not a counter one!) is The Drive-In Theater one in Hollywood Studios

  11. brian mahoney says:

    pecos

  12. Jeremy McBryar says:

I really like Old Port Royal the Sandwich Shop. Turkey BLT is awwesome there.

  13. Chris Bowman says:

Like everything at WDW it can never be just 1 so here are my favorites at each of the 4 parks and a resort selection too: MK-Columbia Harbor house-nice quiet place upstairs and great fish & chicken, AK-Pizzafari-good salad & pizza combo, HS-Backlot Express-great location and environment, EPCOT-many choices but Sunshine Seasons has great variety, Resort (Contemporary)-Contempo Cafe-great options with bakery and quite location during middle of the day.

  14. We like Cosmic Rays because they have veggie burgers there! Many of the quick serve restaurants are very, very limited for quick choice options.

  15. This really is one of the top counter service spots in WDW. :)

  16. The Backlot Express is also very good as well.
