On August 13, 2012 a member of the WDW Radio family, Nolan Woodall, passed on. A regular listener, “Box Person,” community member and friend, his continues to affect many of us in the Disney community.

This past Wednesday night’s WDW Radio LIVE broadcast was spent not mourning, but celebrating the life of Nolan, sharing stories of our time with him, laughing and paying tribute.

During the show, this short video, filled with memories and photos from his friends, played in honor of Nolan:

The following video is a full recording of that evening’s show.

Nolan, you will be missed.

– Your friends, Lou Mongello, “The Box People” and your entire WDW Radio family

I have always thought that Walt would be more than slightly disappointed at what EPCOT became; though it is my favorite park. He had this amazing vision of what the “community of tomorrow” would be and do for people. How people would come from all around to see what was new and exciting and hopefully bring that inspiration back to their local communities.

During the show, you note someone from the box saying that this is the definition of “Disney” and I can’t agree more. Walt was so excited about the EPCOT portion of the florida project. He wanted to bring people together to get inspired. He wanted for people to feel welcomed when they arrived. He was excited about the “blessing of size” that the Florida project allowed.

All of those things happen with wdw radio.

He never saw the enormous blessing of size that the internet provides. I can only imagine that if it were available during his life, wdw-radio would be a fantastic example of a modern day EPCOT he may have imagined. Walt, without a solitary doubt, would have loved to be a box person and been a part of this community.

To Nolan’s family – I am truly sorry for your loss; too young, unfair and seemingly irrational. I hope you can find peace in the life that Nolan left with you and others. From the sounds of it, he didn’t waste a minute of his life. That is something that is rare indeed.
To Lou and the wdw-radio folks – how lucky are we that we get to actualy have a glimpse of what Walt would have built if he knew about the internet. Thanks Lou for creating the center city hub of this Experiment Prototype Community of Tomorrow.

  2. I’m so glad you posted these. Such a great video, I’ve already watched it 2 more times, not counting the 3 times we watched it Wednesday night. Every body in the box on Wednesday nights are such a huge part of our lives and Nolan was truly a presence in the box, he was there every week with so much to contribute. Although I never met him in person, I was able to laugh with him and share in our box family together every week!
My heart goes out to Nolan’s family. It must be a very hard time for you all. I am glad Nolan’s sister Paige and Mom will be going on the cruise in November, where we can all talk about him and celebrate his life some more!

So sad to hear about the loss of one of the “Box People.”
WDWRadio is an amazing way to share, celebrate and hang out with others who appreciate what WDW is and what it has brought to our families. The bottom line is, the people from WDW Radio, including Lou and the listeners, are an amazing group of people. Good people, who share a common interest in a place that is very special to us all. Like Lou says all the time “whether we’ve met yet or not, you are my friend.” WDWRadio is a place where we can all escape to and spend time with good people, much like ourselves, who share this love of WDW. Nolan, you will be missed.

I couldn’t have written a better tribute than this one, Lou. I could feel The Box overflowing with love Wednesday night and I hope that dear Nolan’s mother and sister could feel it too.
