by Makena W.

When I was writing about background music a few weeks ago, I thought, it’s not only the tunes that get stuck in your head but some of the ride phrases, too.  I have managed to put together some of my favorite one-liners from Walt Disney World attractions.

“Welcome, foolish mortals, to the Haunted Mansion.”
This is a quote from the Haunted Mansion (just in case you couldn’t tell) and one of its’ most famous one-liners.  It is said by the Ghost Host.  I love this quote so much that it actually plays when I log on to my laptop.

“Now some person I don’t even know reminds me there’s no eating, drinking, smoking, or flash photography allowed in my dream.”
This quote is one of many memorable ones from the Ellen’s Energy Adventure pre-show.  If fact, the whole preshow should be on this list!  It is one of the most entertaining and hilarious safety spiels, in my opinion.  Ellen really adds some personality to this passage by using her facial expressions.  I couldn’t imagine this line being said by anybody else.

“There it is ladies and gentlemen, the backside of water!”
Of course, how could you have a list of quotes without the most famous line from the Jungle Cruise!  This ongoing joke is almost a required line that a skipper has to say.  It is a very loose script, but if you don’t mention the backside of water you will be shunned from Disney World and all skippers!  (Okay, maybe not to that level of hate, but pretty close.) (**Hey, don’t we have a Backsideofwater in The Box?**)

“Please stand clear of the doors…Por favor mantenganse alejado de las puertas.”
Every Disney fan should know this quote.  Do I even have to say where it is from? This is the only piece of Spanish that I have COMPLETELY mastered and don’t hesitate or stutter when repeating it.  You know that you are a Disney legend when you get to say this on a monorail recording.

“Do you see an increase in lateral forces?  Sure am!”
This quote from Test Track has always been memorable to me.  I have no idea why, but it has always made me smile.  I don’t know if this line made it through the refurbishment, but I am still hoping!

Another quote from my favorite ride in Epcot.  This is said during the Brake test.  When you head towards the orange cones, the lady screeches this as the car brakes.  This is a quote that I use away from Walt Disney World also.  When we are on a street heading towards a red light, I will say “BRAKING!” when it is time for us to stop the car.

“Some imagination, huh?”
This line from Fantasmic is the last thing you hear before Mickey disappears in a puff of smoke.  It really summarizes the point of the show in just three words.  The big mouse himself says this, and it is one of the only lines that he speaks in the whole show.

“And another thing…those locked coordinates…we’re in!”
Dr. Grant Seeker (hahaha…get it?) almost kills you and the rest of the passengers in the car because of this quote aboard DINOSAUR! in Animal Kingdom.  He hacks into the machine so he can send you to a time period where an asteroid is about to hit the earth.  You don’t have a lot of time until it makes impact.  This made the list because it really changes the mood of the ride and teaches a lesson of its own – don’t break the rules.

I know I am probably forgetting a few significant quotes.  Do you have a favorite one-liner that is not on the list?  I would love to know what it is.  Please leave a comment below.

See ya REAL soon!

Quote of the Week: “I shall call him squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my squishy!” ~Dory, Finding Nemo

PS: This blog had to be done in advance because I am aboard the WDW Radio Cruise going on RIGHT NOW!  If anyone guessed last week’s “Where in the World?”, it will be announced next week.  Thank you for understanding.

  1. Becky says:

From Muppetvision 3D: Stopping in the middle of the row is distinctly unpatriotic.
(There are so many on this attraction.)
    It’s a glorious 3 hour finale. – You’ve got a minute & a half!

  2. Debbie says:

Snakes, why did it have to be snakes?

  3. Theresa "CriesDuringWishes" says:

“We must all believe in our Wishes, for they are the magic in the world. Now let’s all put our hearts together, and make a Wish come true!”

(because I can’t let a list go by without getting Wishes on it)

also from another fav attraction- “Please don’t throw me in that briar patch!”

Mak, I would like to know what your fav line from the Cruise is!!!

  4. Caitlin Corsello says:

My two favorite one lines are:

    “We wants the redhead!”

“Paging Mr. Morrow, Mr. Tom Morrow.”

  5. Tony E says:

Not a one liner, but still one of my favorite quotes in Disney parks is the pre-show for Muppet Vision 3D.

Gonzo: “What foolishness would you like to see?”

Also from Muppet Vision 3D “Rat Schamt. They’re tourists. What do they know?”

  6. Daniel Reich says:

I’ve always loved the,”Please stand clear of the doors.” I also love, “Hang onto your hats. Cause this here’s the wildest ride in the wilderness!”

  7. Jason Breslin says:

My brother Sam loves the line “WE’RE NOT GONNA MAKE IT!!! WE’RE NOT GONNA MAKE IT!!!!!” from Dinosaur!

  8. Well, one of my favorites was actually raised to an even higher level of favorite-ness, when said by Lou in the Box- “A salute to all nations, but mostly America.”

So great to meet you on the cruise! You are such a nice person!

  9. elbug10 says:

So many to choose from! I miss the old TTA spiel where they told you to “please keep all forward facing arms, legs, tentacles and antenae in the car at all times”.

Also the Jungle Cruise “Pair of Docks/pair of dorks” and the story about being left on IASW as a child ending up as a JC skipper.

And I don’t know about Mak’s favorite line from the cruise was but mine was “We’re On Vacation!” Also, when Hades is going through his options for villians to call for help in “Villians Tonight” and dismisses Darth Vader as “too new to the family” 🙂
