Secrets of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney Trivia Contest, Event Updates and more! – Apr. 21, 2013

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show – Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #321 for the week of April 21, 2013.

To celebrate the 15 year anniversary of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and hopefully help you enjoy, explore and appreciate this beautiful park with a message and a mission even more, this week we’re going to take a very close look not at its history, but the experiences you can enjoy, and may have even overlooked – today. So we are going to share our favorite Secrets of Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Things You Didn’t Know You Could Find, Do and Learn (and Eat) in the park.

I’ll have the answer to our last Walt Disney World Trivia Question of the Week, and pose a new challenge for your chance to win a Disney prize package.

Stay tuned as I’ll announce the date and details of our WDW Radio On the Road Event coming to the NY/NJ area this summer, as well as some more updates at the end of the show. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week!

– Lou Mongello

My fav AK secret is Mrs. Potts in the mountain/rock!

  2. Chad Heister says:

Thanks for the memories. I agree with Lou, AK is a two day park! Especially for first timers like me. It was the first WDW park I visited on our trip. We came to WDW in November 2012. I was amazed the whole time with my family. I was only there a day, but I wish I had TIME to explore. We were just hitting the highlights in our one day we allotted for the park.

  3. Joseph says:

Though you can see elephants on both sides of the truck. You get longer views of elephants and lions (if they are sunning themselves) if you sit on the left side of the safari vehicle! Thats my fav secret! Shhh! Dont tell anyone!

  4. Ric Woods says:

Lou great show. My most favorite time and part of AK is staying until closing just to enjoy the park at dusk and sometimes in the dark. AK is a totally different park after dusk that must be experienced to believe. From the nesting of birds in the trees to the different sounds of the park. The beauty of the lamps on the walk ways to feeling that you are all lone in certain parts of the park.

  5. James says:

My favourite “secret” of AK is the small shrine as you enter Asia from Africa that is a model of a series of temples. The secret being that its outline it perfectly matches the Expedition Everest mountain range in the background.

  6. Chris says:

Which is the podcast Lou referred to, in which he argues that Animal Kingdom is a two-day park? I have searched for it but can’t find it…

  7. Lisa says:

AK is fast becoming my favorite park! It’s really a great break from the other park touring regimes because you do have to go slow to enjoy the details and stories ensconsed in this park. One of my favorite things to do is sit at the Dawa Bar, have a tasty adult beverage and people watch, watch the African drummers and just absorb the details of the buildings in the area.

  8. Katy M says:

I tell everyone who is traveling to WDW for the first time this one – when you leave It’s Tough to be a Bug take a left instead of following the crowd out to the right. Not only do you get away from the mass of people, there are beautiful (and empty!!!) trails to discover. So many people miss this stuff and never realize it is there.

  9. Lara Thompson says:

Love the single rider line at Everest. Love the walking trails around the tree. Love Devine! But secret – the Flights of Wonder show is really great – not just a place to take a rest…

  10. Chuck Zitta says:

I think you hit the nail on the head, right at the end of the show, when it comes to my favorite secret of the Animal Kingdom. And that would be Divine. What a hidden treasure she is. I love trying to find her when we go to Animal Kingdom. “Look closer” (done in my best Rafiki voice).

Thanks again for another fantastic show, Lou and Ryan!!!
