shopDisney: Painting the Roses Red, Disney Partners with Glidden

shopDisney is a bi-weekly blog that will focus on Disney merchandise and products sold in the parks, in Disney stores, and in other retail markets.  We will explore product reviews, affordability, and to whom the products are marketed.  Like any other good product review, we will conclude with a rating scale for several different key components: price, age group, and whether the product is a “must have.”

Thanks to another hot tip this week, I have learned that Disney has partnered with the paint brand, Glidden, 1to create a line of affordable paints that can be purchased at Wal-Mart.  In the press release the line is described as: “The Disney Paint line is a magical collection of 112 exclusive colors grouped into three palettes, with imaginative Disney-themed names, designed to give parents and children options at every stage, from infant to tween,” said Jason Stewart, director of softlines product development for Disney Consumer Products. “This makes decorating with your child easy and fun – no matter the age.”

The three palettes are named: “Colors to Begin With,” “Colors with Character,” and “Colors with Kick.”

I know most of you will remember that Disney had been partnered with Behr paints and offered the famous Mickey-head paint chips (which were used for many crafts I am sure), however I spoke with my local Home Depot and they no longer carry the Disney name.

During my visit to Walmart to see the display of the paint and found that it not themed to one gender or towards one group of characters, but instead have blended them all together to create a wide choice of colors 4with some really neat names!  The paint chips are not shaped like Mickey, but just as normal rectangles with a small Mickey head in the corner.  The best bit of news is that, not only do they offer paint in 112 different colors, they also offer 5 different add-on finishes.  The finishes are: “All that Glitters,” “Speck-tacular,” “Magnificent Metallic,” “Great Slate,” and Ready, Set, Glow.”

I also discovered that they offer at least 5 different idea books that show examples of colors that can be used together to make the perfect Disney room.  In these idea books, they also offer ideas on how to use the different finishes to add another special touch.
