My loyalty to Disney is absolute. I have never been to Universal Studios (nor do I intend to) and have only unwillingly seen some Dreamworks movies.
However, at the end of the day, living over one thousand miles from Walt Disney World (and three time zones away from Disneyland) makes my heart ache. So, sometimes….. when I am in need of a fix… shhhh…..
I go to other “theme parks.”
I know. I really should be ashamed. But, I have grown to comfort my self-induced guilt by making said excursions “research trips” (as our good friend Lou would say.) I work “undercover” as a future (aspiring) Disney Imagineer and look at what other parks do. It took me a while to concede that it was possible that any theme park other than Disney might have good ideas. However, I have grudgingly, at times, found myself at another park (I know…I’m a heathen) and begun wondering, “I wonder why Disney doesn’t do that?” or “How would this work if Disney did it?”
And so, after my most recent jaunt to a park-not-known-as-Disney, I decided I should start sharing my inner Imagineering with my WDW Radio family. In upcoming weeks, I will share some of the policies, ideas, and events these “other” parks have and brainstorm with you:
1. What is the idea and how does this idea work in the “other” park?
2. How would/could this idea work if it were at a Disney Park?
3. What would be the advantages and disadvantages of incorporating that idea into a Disney Park?
And then, we will vote–and decide if this is something we would like to see in our parks!
Oh, and I need your help! If you find yourself in “another” theme park this summer (I won’t tell) and you see an idea, policy, or event that you find yourself wondering “I wonder what Disney Parks Would Do” with that idea, snap a picture and send it my way! I would love to discuss it and put it to a vote! You can always reach me at Christy@WDWRadio.com
Next time, our first WWDPD (What Would Disney Parks Do) involves….. family dryers outside water rides!
