Disney From The Twenty-Something: Le Cellier

Le CellierMy favorite restaurant in all of Epcot lies tucked in the Canada pavilion and it offers a mean steak. Le Cellier represents the finest Canadian cuisine there is and does so in a cozy and sophisticated environment. With its name meaning “the cellar” the restaurant is designed to resemble the famous wine cellars of the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac and the Fairmont Chateau Laurier. As you enter the main doors of the restaurant, there is a decorative wine rack located behind the hostess which immediately helps to set the tone for the ambiance that is to come once you enter the dimly lit dining room. (Be sure to also look for a Hidden Mickey among the wine display!) In terms of a Disney restaurant, Le Cellier is on the smaller side, which can make it rather difficult to obtain a reservation, so be sure to do so as far in advance as possible. While it is small, combined with the dim lighting and wonderful food its lighting only enhances the cozy feel of a wine cellar in the heart of Canada. As you are being seated, your server should inform you of what province you are seated in. Each section of Le Cellier represents a different Canadian province, so be sure to find out where you are!

Since Le Cellier is so popular amongst Disney diners, I really do stress making a reservation as far in advance as you can. If you are having difficulty obtaining a reservation, why not try making one for lunch instead of dinner? It’s slightly less crowded then and the food is just as delectable. If you are on the Disney Dining Plan, be aware that Le Cellier is now considered a Fine/Signature Dining experience and counts as two table service dining credits. Despite being two credits, you can definitely get your money’s worth as there are some pretty expensive items on the menu.

Le CellierAnd speaking of the menu, let’s get to the best part of Le Cellier- the food! Complimentary to each table is a basket of what is some of the most ridiculously delicious bread I have ever had in my life: pretzel bread. It’s soft, buttery, salty, and comes with a side of butter with maple and sea salt. My mouth is watering now just thinking about it! In terms of appetizers, my personal favorite is the much hyped Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup featuring Moosehead beer and Neuske’s smoked bacon. For the main course, there are countless offerings that are sure to entice even the pickiest eater. While there are some amazing seafood options such as seared scallops and striped bass, I am personally not a seafood fan. For me it’s all about the meat, particularly the steak. My favorite steak of all is the Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon featuring AAA Canadian beef tenderloin with wild mushroom risotto, white truffle-butter sauce, and micro chervil. A close second is the Canadian AAA New York Strip steak with potato pave, wilted spinach, and vin rouge reduction. If steak or seafood isn’t your favorite thing, there are plenty of other great options including a lamb rack, veal tenderloin, and pasta.Le Cellier

Despite being a steakhouse and focusing on the meat, Le Cellier stills delivers with its desserts which include Maple Crème Brulee and White Chocolate Cheesecake. Perhaps some of the most unique offerings of Le Cellier come in the form of drinks. There is a fantastic wine, beer, and spirits list which highlights Canadian made products. From whiskey flutes to Canadian ice wine, there is something for everyone. My favorite drink is the Blanche de Chambly which is a white champagne style beer named after the French Canadian military hero Captain de Chambly. Give it a try!

With all Le Cellier has to offer, I would definitely recommend eating there are least once. (Trust me; the pretzel bread alone is enough to keep people coming back!) So go ahead, indulge in some steak, some delectable desserts, and some exclusive cocktails- you’ll really feel as though you are in a Canadian wine cellar!
