Finding Disney…. at the Airport

Extraordinary Magic in Everyday Life

En route to the most magical place on earth, the first stop for many folks is the airport. And maybe it’s just the giddiness of the trip ahead that makes it seem this way, but call me crazy if the airport isn’t brimming with little touches that instantly bring Disney to mind.

A few weeks ago, I was on my way to a non-Disney destination (I’m just as shocked as you are to learn planes fly to places other than Orlando!) and kept being reminded of the mouse. For one, I ran into Disney paraphernalia everywhere. Mouse ears, Disney shirts, and plush toys marked families who had just returned from Florida. This brought mixed emotions: first a smile (Oh, wow! They just got back from Disney!), then sympathy (Oh, wow. They just got back from Disney.), then utter jealousy (Oh, wowwww. They just got backIMG_0412 from Disney!!). I even saw one child with a large Pluto toy signed by all the characters. He was trying to torture me, I just know it.

As we settled in and waited for our flight time to arrive, I couldn’t help but thinking of Toy Story 2 looking out the window. Somewhere out there, a toy cowboy and his horse were trying to rescue their friend. (The orange traffic cone in the foreground awesomely suffices as my evidence.)

The Disneyness followed onto the plane. I mean, tell me this picture doesn’t look exactly like the opening shot of the Walt Disney Pictures logo! (The one that plays before every Disney movie… you know the one? The one that starts out with a moving camera that begins at a WDW December 2010 Pt 1 042river and goes in front of the castle?)

Disney was everywhere. Then I decided to do something of my own about all of it. As I was soaring through the clouds, well… that was just it. I was soaring through the clouds! So my first-choice iPod selection was naturally the Soarin’ soundtrack. Keeping with the theme, next I chose the score from Up. Flying through the sky listening to Up music – now that is one experience I suggest every Disney fan put on their bucket list because it is surreal!

As it just so happened, our final destination was my great uncle’s house, where I got unexpectedly got a taste IMG_0523of New Fantasyland… like Gaston, my uncle uses antlers in all of his decorating.
