It started pretty innocently. A friend of mine (whose identity is being concealed for the sake of her continued employment) and I were texting while she was in a boring meeting at work. Neither of us were thrilled to be doing what we were supposed to be doing at that moment. (I was “folding laundry”—checking Facebook and texting while a pile of freshly clean clothes sat in front of me.)
So, I texted her this…
Because, you know, when you are sitting in a boring meeting or surrounded by a mountain of laundry, searching through free emoticons seems like a perfectly sane thing to do–and definitely a good use of life’s limited time.
Since my partner in crime and I are both Disney obsessed, it didn’t take long before we were sending each other emoticons that reminded us of Disney. (The laundry can wait, after all.)
We started out with single pictures: the barbershop pole for the Main Street Barbershop, and the turkey leg for… well, you know…. the turkey leg. (As an aside…. When in the course of normal human texting–this situation clearly falling into the “not normal” category–does anyone EVER need a turkey leg picture???)
But after exhausting the logical single picture emoticons, we moved into piecing several emoticons together to describe Disney attractions, hotels, and even emotions…. Here, for example, is our emoticon string for Cinderella’s Royal Table, as well as one expressing what I imagine is a common Disney emotion….
We had so much fun, we finished out her meeting, I called the kids to fold the laundry, and we started forwarding our creations to other friends to make them guess what we were describing… And thus, a BLOG was born!
So, what we plan to do is have a little emoticon contest! Each Wednesday, I will post one of our invented descriptions for a Disney attraction, hotel, emotion, or restaurant. It will be YOUR job to try to figure out what Disney attraction we are describing solely with our emoticons. Some weeks we will post the name of something Disney related and ask YOU to submit your emoticon descriptions, and we will publish them on the blog the following week!
In the end, we’ll all have a little fun the next time we are confronted with a boring meeting or an endless pile of laundry (the kids did a very nice job of folding, by the way.)
So, here we go: can you figure out what part of the World we were texting about with this emoticon string:
Post your answers in the comments below. And hey–let’s randomly award a mystery ticket to someone who guesses it correctly!
If by some chance this post inspires you to play with your free emoticons during a boring meeting and you invent a great emoticon string to describe something Disney… well, take a screen shot and email it to Christy@WDWRadio.com We may just feature yours in an upcoming post!
