Disney From The Twenty Something: Yak & Yeti Restaurant

Yak & YetiOne of my favorite table service restaurants in all of Walt Disney World can be found in the Asia section of the Animal Kingdom. Yak & Yeti Restaurant offers up traditional Asian cuisine with a twist in a richly detailed environment.

Opening in 2007, Yak & Yeti was the first table service restaurant in the Animal Kingdom and it replaced two quick service locations- Sunaulo Toren Fries and Chakranadi Chicken Shop. The restaurant is also unique in that it features a full service restaurant as well as a quick walk-up food counter called Yak & Yeti Local Foods Café. In addition, there is also the Yak & Yeti Quality Beverages bar located just inside the restaurants main entrance.

Once you enter into Yak & Yeti you are immersed in the story of the restaurant which originally was a village home when the family decided to turn it into a business and furnish it with collectibles and items purchased during their travels throughout South Asia. The details throughout the two floors of dining are amazing, and you are encouraged by the staff to walk around and take in all there is to see. It is a great Disney detail that every item displayed throughout the restaurant is authentic and was either purchased in or sent from South Asia. If you visit during a slower dining period, I also recommend that you ask to be seated near the upstairs windows as they offer some natural light as well as a great place to look out into the park and people watch as you eat.Yak & Yeti

While Yak & Yeti’s setting is amazing, it is the food that truly shines. Open for both lunch and dinner, the restaurant offers up some classic Asian dishes with a flair that will leave you wanting more. Starting with drinks there are some unique offerings such as the Yak Attack, Shanghai Express, Bonsai Blast, Everest Avalanche, and my personal favorite the Safari Amber beer which is brewed exclusively for Disney’s Animal Kingdom. There are also additional selections of wine and beer available as well as a full bar.

Once you select a drink, the choices only get harder as you move onto the appetizers as everything sounds delicious! Some of the offerings include Wonton Soup, Wok Fried Green Beans, Ahi Tuna Salad, Pork Egg Rolls, Mandarin Chicken Salad, and the ever delicious Pork Pot Stickers- trust me, you won’t want to ever stop eating them! As you move onto the main course, there are even more delicious options to choose from. The best two meals that I have ever sampled have been the Stir Fry Beef & Broccoli and the Tempura Shrimp with Flank Steak. In both cases everything was cooked to perfection, with the meat almost melting in your mouth. While those can sound like regular standby dishes in Asian cuisine, Yak & Yeti keeps things interesting and delicious by using spices and wonderful flavors to make your meal really unique. Other main course options include Crispy Mahi Mahi, Duck with Anadapur Sauce, Baby Back Ribs, and Crispy Honey Chicken. While I’ve never sampled any of those options, I would love to know if you have! Be sure to leave me some recommendations in the comments below so that I know what to order the next time I go.

Yak & YetiWhile everything offered at Yak & Yeti is delicious, my favorite thing to eat there comes from the dessert menu. The Fried Wontons feature skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons with vanilla ice cream and a honey-vanilla drizzle. Trust me when I tell you that those wontons are the stuff that dreams are made of- my mouth is watering just thinking about them! They are the perfect balance of tart and sweet and make for a truly unique and delectable dessert! However, if the wontons don’t sound up your alley, there are plenty of other dessert options including New York Style Cheesecake, Chocolate Cake, and a Sorbet Trio featuring lemon, raspberry, and mango.Yak & Yeti

Yak & Yeti Restaurant combines a wonderful atmosphere with some amazing food and definitely will leave you wanting to return on each vacation to try something new. It has quickly become one of my top dining spots in all of WDW and while I was only there last week, I am already planning what I want to order next time! So please be sure to let me know your thoughts about Yak & Yeti in the comments below! I would love to hear the different meals you have tried and what your favorite decorative details throughout the restaurant are!
