shopDisney: T’ears’ at Hallmark

by Alyssa Wiseman

I just love going into the Hallmark store to see what new cards they have created (the massive singing ones are hysterical) and during my last few trips to the store, I have been amazed at how many Disney products they carry.  Thankfully none of them made me cry like Hallmark cards often do, but here are just a few things that I decided were worth visiting the store to buy!

Christmas Ornaments:

We all are aware of amazing collection of ornaments that Hallmark offers each year and just how popular they can be.  The number of Disney-branded ornaments continues to grow and it is mainly due to the recent acquisition of Marvel and Lucas Films.  I found out last month that the ornaments had been released, but I could not bring myself to write about them (it seems like the weather just got nice and I just started working on my tan).  However, it seems like I now have no choice and so here are a few of my favorites:

Just a few notes about these ornaments that I have posted. One is that the ornament of the castle was featured at the D23 Expo, and they offered a very limited number of this piece (825) that was hand-painted and not going to be offered anywhere else.  They were beautiful and I am still kicking myself that I didn’t purchase one.

The next ornament that I wanted to specifically mention was the zoetrope one. After my first trip to Disneyland, I now have a much larger appreciation of just how important5 this device was to the creation of animation.  If you don’t know what a zoetrope is, don’t feel like I will take away your Disney card, you should look it up and see what type of a role it played in early animation.  This Hallmark ornament is really cute and also plays music and shows the little “movie” inside.  I think this design and makes little children ask what exactly this is.  So really, its an educational purchase!

Wrapping Supplies:

Sometimes a gift just looks too cute to open……okay, okay, maybe not ever open, but you do just want to have a moment to look at the gift and if you used these wrapping supplies to decorate your gift they will really pop!!  The paper was not flashy, but more of a retro design and I will be buying some for my paper collection.  The pictures do not show the bags very well, but they featured really big yellow buttons that just enhanced the overall quality of the bag.

6Itty-Bitty’s:

I don’t really know what purpose these serve, but they are Disney characters, so I might as well mention them.  They are called Itty-Bitty’s and are basically a Disney character fit into a rattle-shape.  Honestly, they were different and not something that I would collect.  They all kind of look like chipmunks and now that I say that, they will probably be worth lots of money someday!

Cards:

I wouldn’t be doing justice to Hallmark if I didn’t post one picture of their cards, so I took one picture to show that the store I visited had a variety of the Disney cards in the “Disney” area.  I thought that was a nice touch and allowed those wanting a Disney card to only have to look one place!

D23 Exclusive Sneak-Peek:

As I have already mentioned, Hallmark had a booth set up at the Expo and was offering a glimpse into the ornaments that Disney will be offering for 2014 and 2015!  Here are just a few:

I hope that none of you wish Christmas and Winter on us too early, but I will also understand if you decide that your tree needs one or more of these ornaments!

Until next time…..keep shopping Disney-style!
