Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party: A Review & Trip Report

by Ruby

6This fall, my family and I went to Mickey’s Not-So Scary Halloween Party! Halloween is my favorite holiday and combining Disney with fall is like a dream come true for me! Let me explain my night for you.

Now this is Halloween, so you’re going to dress up, right? My mom and I were witches, a very classic costume but always a favorite. My sister wore Rapunzel’s wedding dress and my dad was a “fortuneteller”. And no costume is complete without glitter…. we had lots of it! Then we were off to Magic Kingdom.

First, we went to get our special Halloween party Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom card. (It had the hitchhiking ghosts on it!) Then we went to get a special pin from the event–my family and I are pin fanatics! But then, of course, we got hungry! So to save time we went to Cosmic Rays and ordered food to go. It really was a great idea to take it to go, people were already saving spots for the parade! We were lucky because we found a spot right in front and then ate our dinner there.

Now does anyone else think that Mickey’s “Boo-To-You” parade is THE BEST parade EVER? Well I certainly do! It just started to get dark and then I heard a voice…He was introducing…The Headless Horseman!!! Then the parade officially started! Here are some highlights of the parade. The first float that came out was Mickey, Minnie, Daisy and Donald all dressed up in their Halloween costumes! Then Pinocchio, Jasmine, Aladdin, Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dum, the Mad Hatter, Alice, Snow White, came out dancing along the 5street. (They had beautiful mascaraed masks on!) Tigger, Pooh, Eeyore and Christopher Robin came out in their costumes (I never imagined how adorable Eeyore could look dressed as a clown!) A character you don’t see a lot that’s in this parade is Clarabelle the cow; she’s so cute! Then there was the Pirates of the Caribbean float with Captain Barbosa and Jack Sparrow. I tried waving at Jack to see if he would notice me but it didn’t work, so I made a funny face at him and he did it right back at me! (Fan girl moment #1) My favorite part of the parade is the Haunted Mansion float and dancers! The Hitchhiking ghosts are so cool. The dancing ghosts are stunning and I love when the gravediggers’ dance. It is so cool, especially the way they make the sparks! The Villains have a float of course and there is Maleficent at the top with her orange Halloween outfit!

After the parade, we went down to Tomorrowland (All of us singing the Boo-to-You song…”It’s really not so scary…”) 7and we saw the Monster’s University Dance Party was going on! I RAN and made it just in time to learn the “Calling All the Monsters” dance! (I’ve watched it on YouTube, but I really wanted to do it in real life!)  This was one of my favorite parts of the night! I started to dance with Sully, Mike and George! (He had a sock on his back!) Then something AMAZINGLY surprising, amazing and amazing happened… guess who walks onto the dance floor? BOO!!!! When she walked out I literally screamed! (Fan girl moment #2) Oh my goodness, she was so cute I’ve never been so surprised and happy meeting a character! Then she waddled over to Sully and it was the cutest dance I had ever seen! I eventually was so hot in my cape that I had to leave…and ride Astro Orbiter! But really, this party is a must see. After that we went on Buzz Lightyear. Unfortunately, we never got to see the castle projection. We watched the HalloWishes fireworks in line for The Magic Kingdom Speedway since we decided to do other things and still they were beautiful.

Then we went on the Haunted Mansion (It is Halloween, right?) for the third time on the trip! That attraction still amazes me…the cast members working there were dressed in the coolest costumes. Speaking of the Haunted Mansion, something really surprising happened when I was in 3cue! There I was, innocently reading gravestones, and somewhere amongst the fog and the lights, I saw a ghost…it took me a second to realize what was happening until I started to look at her! It wasn’t a hologram it was a person! The lady’s dress was so big and flouncy and the lights and fog gave the full effect that she was a ghost. After we got off the ride I ran toward her and she said hello! I said hello back and then she asked me what I was dressed as. I said a sorceress and then I swished my cape! Then she asked me if I saw the Headless Horseman. I said yes and she went on about how he left her and never answered her calls! I told her you can always find a nice hitchhiking ghost and then she said, “Oh you’re right, but you never know when they’ll just ride away on someone else’s Doombuggy…” (Fan girl moment #3)

To Fantasyland we go! First stop, Peter Pan…the wait was only 13 MINUTES! Probably one of the best rides in Walt Disney World. Then we went to The Little Mermaid…for the third time! I love the way the animatronics move like humans but look like cartoons! Then we were thirsty so we went to Gaston’s Tavern and got LeFou’s Brew. (What genius came up with that?) I was just about to go in line to meet Gaston but the line was closed… After our drink, we were on our way out of Fantasyland and there was a line for something by where they were building the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. I took a peek and there was the Seven Dwarfs!! Unfortunately, we couldn’t meet them, not only because it was closed, the wait time was an hour and a half…

Afterwards we went to Frontierland and there was another dance party with Woody, Jessie and Bullseye! (As you can tell I really like dancing) The funniest part of the night was when Woody did a full-blown dance routine to “Single Ladies”!! Then Woody slow danced with me and kissed me on the head…. Oh, my! (Fan girl moment #4)

Now, right before we left the party we HAD to go on Pirates of the Caribbean! (For the fourth time on the trip) That drop gets you every time, even though its not big its still so fun!

Here, ladies and gentleman, was the moment I’ve been waiting for THE MOMENT I KNEW I was going to WDW… I met Jack Skellington and Sally!!!!!!!!!! They were so stunning and impressive, when I was waiting in line my knees were shaking and I got butterflies in my stomach! I mean, they are only here at the Halloween party; this was my only chance to meet them! Finally I was next and I pulled myself together and I knew exactly what I was going to say… My favorite part about most of my character meet and greets 4this year was the fact that the characters came up to you and actually greeted you! That is exactly what happened here. They took me by the hand and brought me over to talk. First I went up to Sally and showed her my pin I wore (It had Sally behind a piece of candy corn!) and she loved it! Jack asked me how I was doing and I said “Spectacularly spooky!” and he gave me a high five…then I asked for a hug! (I’m a hugger.) Then Sally asked me, “Are you a vampire?”.  I said, “I’m a sorceress” and did my famous cape swish! Sally and Jack were surprised and said I was wonderfully spooky! As I was in line thinking about what would happen, that’s all I wanted to be…wonderfully spooky! (Fan girl moment #5) After we took our first picture, I asked if we could take one with scary faces…they of course said yes! Then that was that. I gave them each one more hug and as I was leaving, Jack said, “Stay spooky my friend.”

So that was my review on Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party! I loved it so much and it was by far my favorite night of the trip! (It also had a lot of fan girl moments for me…) If you can, you really should check it out. But now, I have some questions for you!

Did you go to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party? Did you see the parade? Did you go to any dance parties or meet the one and only Jack and Sally? Tell me what your favorite part about it was in the comment section, I’d love to know!
