by Alyssa Wiseman

Confession time, in my last house our kitchen was completely Mickey Mouse themed!  While I absolutely loved the theming, I knew when we bought a new house I wanted more of a designer look and decided that I would move the Disney items into our basement half-kitchen.

While I am okay with this change and love my new kitchen, I am always looking at the amazing kitchen and dinnerware that features anything with Mickey.  As this was one of 2my favorite items to shop for, I wanted to share with you all of the amazing pieces I have recently found:

Target or Grocery Chain:

My mother-in-law purchased these plates for Brandon and I to have in our Mickey-inspired kitchen and they are my favorite in the collection.  They all feature sketches and artist notes for Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Pluto.  These plates were bought for me at Target, but I have recently seen them at our local Kroger.

Not only are these plates fun to eat off of, they also make you want to grab paper and a pencil and start sketching!

Specially Made:

1While doing our wedding registry (which is the best thing in the world and it should be allowed for every ten years you are married.  I know, I have only been married 4!), we went with a very plain design for our drinking glasses.  My mother-in-law, Penny decided that we needed a little additional magic and decided to take our plain glasses and etch some “character” into them.  They turned out really well and instead of buying new ones, we decided to keep these in our new kitchen!  This is just one example of how you don’t have to purchase something from Disney, but can create a wonderful item on a budget.

Disney Parks:

Now onto the products that still amaze me, not only for how pretty they are, but also for how expensive they are as well!  I am speaking about the dinnerware that Disney sells.  What really amazes me is that Disney does not sell these products in a set (such as 4 plates, 4 bowls, and 4 small plates), but instead sells them individually.  I think that, while it allows some consumers to purchase just one or two, it also makes you think of how much you really are paying for each piece.  This is one reason why we did not purchase these items for our kitchen.

The design of the plates is quite simple with a Mickey figure in the middle and then raised Mickey heads around the perimeter.  With the plates only being black and white, 3you can use them with any color that you decide to center your kitchen around.

Price:  Plates $12.95, Small Plates $8.95

Age Group: Adults

Must Have: If you have a Disney themed kitchen

Flatware (a word I learned means silverware while registering) is often used to make a statement in a place setting and this set would make a very fun statement!  I still think that I might be able to find a place to use these in my house…

Price:  $59.95 (actually not a bad price compared to a set at a home store)

Age Group: Adults

Must Have: Yes!

These items still perplex me as I am not sure what exactly they are, besides different size mugs, but they are cute and would look amazing in any kitchen.  You could use them either for decorations, or some chicken soup!5

Price:  $21.95

Age Group: Adults

Must Have: Not really

Here are the Disney options for your drink ware.  They are a little flashy with the gold Mickey heads on the perimeter.  I think they would have looked much better with silver 6ones or just the etching idea.

Price:  4 for $40

Age Group: Adults

Must Have: Maybe

These are my ideas for a full Mickey kitchen and dinner wear.  I hope you enjoy seeing these products and might consider stocking your own cabinets with some of this merchandise.  That is it for this week and remember, keep shopping Disney-style!

shopDisney is a bi-weekly blog that will focus on Disney merchandise and products sold in the parks, in Disney stores, and in other retail markets.  We will explore product reviews, affordability, and to whom the products are marketed.  Like any other good product review, we will conclude with a rating scale for several different key components: price, age group, and whether the product is a “must have.”
