by Alyssa Wiseman

Since Halloween has snuck up and scared me to death this year, I have decided that instead of focusing on what you should buy in preparation for this holiday, I will give some ideas on what you should purchase after the holiday has passed.  Meaning that I am going to discuss items I believe you should really try and purchase when November 1st rolls around and they are marked down 50%.  Being completely honest, I love shopping this way if there are items that are seasonal and I know that if I just wait a little longer, I might be able to save big.

Party City:

I have to mention Party City because they took part in the D23 Expo this year and had on display all of their Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars costumes.  Some of you may remember our own Lou Mongello opening his broadcast during the expo dressed as Thor.  While we all can’t look as good as Chris Hemsworth or Lou Mongello, Party City does have some very nice costumes to help us get a little closer to our favorite character.  I would check out their store or the website after Halloween to see if they offer discounts on costumes that you can use next year.

Pumpkin Accessories:

This is an item, or items, that I would like to stock up on for next year’s Halloween.  Mostly due to the fact that they can cost a lot if you buy them in-season.  There are lots of really cute accessories that you can add to your pumpkin (especially if you are like me and don’t like to carve the pumpkin) and it makes them look adorable and probably last a little longer than carving would.

I think the best pumpkin accessory that I saw was actually given to me by Christy Viszoki and I could never find it in a store by me.  It is a carving kit that comes with a voice-activated speaker and it makes your pumpkin talk like the character you have carved.  The one Christy found was Cinderella and I tried my hardest to find one, but no luck.  This would have been a product I purchased quickly and one that I will be looking for next year.  Christy did mention to me that she found them at her Hallmark store and also her local grocery store.  If anyone does find them, please let me know if they have other Disney characters available.

Disney Online Store:

I love all of the Halloween decorations Disney sells in the parks and you can find many of them in their online store.  While I am not sure that these will be discounted, mainly because most of the decorations can be sold by Haunted Mansion year round or sold next year, but it is worth keeping your eyes on the computer.

shopDisney is a bi-weekly blog that will focus on Disney merchandise and products sold in the parks, in Disney stores, and in other retail markets.  We will explore product reviews, affordability, and to whom the products are marketed.  Like any other good product review, we will conclude with a rating scale for several different key components: price, age group, and whether the product is a “must have.”
