Extraordinary Magic in Everyday Life

Reactions are telling. We react to countless items every single day, whether we’re conscious of our judgment or not. The first thing that pops into our mind when we see or think of any given subject ultimately tells us where we stand on the issue. And this time of year, many fun reactions are elicited by a treasured holiday tradition: gift-giving.

As you may have heard, this year WDW Radio is hosting a Holiday Ornament Exchange.  Participants will send a personally selected ornament (handmade or new) for another member of the WDW Radio community, and the same will be done for them. If you’re reading this on this post’s publication date, it’s not too late to be part of the fun! Today, Wednesday, November 27 is the final day to email your name, mailing address, and favorite Disney character to Christy@WDWRadio.com. It’s going to be really special!

Animal-Kingdom-Christmas-CharactersWhen the day finally comes and your package arrives in the mail (because of course you’ll be counting down the minutes, right?), you’ll run down the driveway, slam open the mailbox, thrust open the shipped box, flail the bubble wrap in the air, and… there it is. Your ornament, in all its glory. Hand-picked just for you! But how will you react? Here are 5 possible reactions:

Excited
Like, really excited. As in, you-just-won-a-night-in-the-Cinderella-Castle-Suite excited. Huzzah! The ornament is here! And it’s perfect! If you were Thor, this ornament would be your magic hammer summoned just to you and specific to match you just right. It’s what you always dreamed it would be! You’ll sprint to find the perfect place to put it on your tree, but not before doing a little jig in the middle of the street first.

Emotional
The ornament is obviously Disney-related. And it comes from someone else who loves Walt Disney World in the exact same way you do. IT’S LIKE DISNEY MAGIC WAS DELIVERED STRAIGHT TO YOUR MAILBOX. [Insert cars honking at you so that you’ll stop lying in the street crying and they can move past you.]

Confused
Wait… this isn’t an ornament. This is lederhosen. Hmm, a note is attached, maybe that will explain it. Who’s Bernadette?

Impressed
Dang! This person really took some time and effort into how they chose this ornament. Aw, gee. Now that Christmasy feeling is officially here.

Nostalgic
The ornament, selected just for you, reminds you of why the world really isn’t so bad after all. How the spirit of giving can brighten someone’s day. How the same character depicted in your ornament inspired you when you were younger to never give up on your dr—MOM, JUST BE QUIET ABOUT YOUR ORNAMENT ALREADY AND PASS THE HAM.

With the Holiday Ornament Exchange or any gift opening in general, those pretty much sum things up. Do you have any fun stories of your reaction to a surprise gift?

This goes back a few years.. I was obsessed with the 1972 undefeated Miami Dolphins, My dad arranged for the team to autograph a ball for me. He had one of the Dolphins being it over to the house, and he made sure. I answered the door,,,well a sort of starry eyed young girl crush, on this person, and when I opened the door and he said,
I have a gift for (me)… I sort of squealed like a little girl lol,,, and slammed the door shut right in his face,,,,,it was mortifying then, but some 40 years later it is just a good funny memory…
