WDW Radio # 345 – Finding Mary Poppins in Walt Disney World – December 15, 2013

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show – Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #345 for the week of December 15 , 2013.

Disney fans have anxiously been awaiting the release of new film, Saving Mr. Banks, which tells the extraordinary, untold backstory of how Disney’s classic “Mary Poppins” made it to the screen thanks to the 20 year quest by Walt Disney. So this week, we’re going to pay homage to the film by looking at Mary Poppins not on the screen, but in the parks, as we seek out Mary Poppins in Walt Disney World. From tributes to exhibits to hidden references and details, we’ll explore and celebrate the film and it’s presence in the parks and resorts

I’ll have the answer to our last Walt Disney World Trivia Question of the Week, and pose a new audio challenge for your chance to win a Disney prize package.

Stay tuned as I’ll have some updates and announcements and more of your voicemails at the end of the show. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week!

– Lou Mongello

    Hey Lou & Jim,
Great tip on the two CD Marry Poppins set on Amazon. I just ordered mine for $7.00, can’t wait to here the P.L. Travers recordings. I also picked up Jim’s new book.

  2. Hey Lou,
Here’s the link to the CD Jim mentioned.

It’s available for immediate download after purchasing too!

  3. Rick Doherty says:

two Mary Poppins’s items you guys missed in the show that I think are cool is the bird in Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress (which is the same bird from the movie) and her umbrella at the train station’s lost and found room. Love the show.

  4. Tony E (BacksideOfWater) says:

I always loved the wooden leg names Smith at the Frontierland Train Station but sadly it’s gone now 🙁

  5. Devan says:

I could be asking a completely obvious question…but where are the show notes located that Lou always talks about??

  6. Jess says:

One of my favorite Mary Poppins references is the topiary at the Grand Floridian. Very subtle but awesome. I am not sure if it is there all the time, but saw it in April or May. Not sure if it was there last month. I also love Mary Poppins at 1900 park fare at breakfast. Always a great character to meet!

  7. Diana says:

Hey Everyone! Just ordered the CD Jim was talking about, $7, you can’t beat it!

  8. Randy Troy says:

Loved the show. Mary Poppins is my favorite character. I just ordered the CD Jim mentioned. I was anxiously awaiting the Blu Ray release of Saving Mr. Banks hoping that some of those recordings would be included as bonus material since some of it is played during the end credits of the movie. So glad that I don’t have to wait.

  9. Chuck Zitta says:

Love the number of chimney sweeps in the Mary Poppins scene of TGMR. Great bit of trivia! Have to add that one to your next trivia book Lou. (If you haven’t already.)

The bird in Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress is always a goodie. Been a few years since I’ve visited the parks. Would need a research trip to look into this question further :0)

Always enjoy the history of Disney that Jim brings to the show. His enthusiasm for disclosing historical tidbits is very uplifting as well! What a great asset to the Disney community.

Thanks again for another spectacular show, Lou and Jim!!!
