WDW Radio # 347 – Live Review of the Rose and Crown Pub: Just How Authentic Is it? – January 19, 2014

Hello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show – Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello, and this is show #347 for the week of January 19, 2014.

I believe that one of the best ways to learn about a culture and people is obviously bro visit their home country. The next best thing is to tour World Showcase in Epcot. But an even better way to really understand and appreciate them is by enjoying and really understating their popular foods. Well this week, we’re going to visit the Rose & Crown pub in Epcot’s United Kingdom pavilion with someone who calls England home for a live restaurant review. We’ll not only sample a number of items from the dinner and drink menu, but get a sense of just how authentic the pub and these dishes really are.

I’ll have the answer to our last Walt Disney World Trivia Question of the Week, and pose a new audio challenge for your chance to win a Disney prize package.

Stay tuned as I’ll have some updates and announcements including information about the WDW Radio 7th Anniversary Party and LIVE show which I want YOU to attend, and more of your voicemails at the end of the show. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week’s episode of the WDW Radio Show.

THANK YOU for your support by voting WDW Radio Best Travel Podcast for 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013!

Thanks for listening! Be sure to tune in next week!

– Lou Mongello

  1. Lindsey says:

The Rose and Crown patio is my favorite place to watch Illuminations! We have dined there several times, and it is usually easy to get an ADR for perfect timing. Just show up early and ask and be willing to wait longer for a patio table.

  2. Kathy says:

Loved this segment…sounded like you all had so much fun. Would have loved to have seen a pic of the two of you together, to put a face with the voice…she sounded so lovely!

  3. Craig Hargrove says:

“I’m going to move past the fruit, that will just take up time and space” – That is a classic Lou Mongello

  4. Lisa says:

I agree with Craig, “I’m going to move past the fruit” is the best line of the show! LOL!

  5. DisneyGirlRuby says:

    Great podcast, Lou!!

  6. LuckyJack says:

Great episode – never tried the Rose & Crown but will have to now.

And man it made me hungry ! 🙂

  7. Emma Godbold says:

Really enjoyed recording this dining review with Lou 🙂 You can find me over on Twitter @pinkemmauk

  8. John says:

Much better than I expected! The dessert plate looks amazing and I enjoyed the definitions of the items on the menu.
    Keep it up, please!

  9. Devan says:

I made the mistake of listening to this before lunch….now I’m starving!! I’ll be checking out the Rose and Crown when I go to Disney the end of this year! Thanks for the review Lou and Emma!

  10. Rick says:

Lou, I heard you mention chicory a few times in this podcast and said it looks like a weed. I Live in New Orleans and chicory is commonly found in the coffee here(although I do not like it in the coffee) because during the depression the weed chicory was added to the coffee to make it last longer.

  11. Becky Manion says:

Also being from UK, I have often wondered straight past – showing no interest.

After listening to this podcast – I have changed my views and would defintely consider eating/drinking here

I dont’t like scotch eggs tho!

  12. Patti Variano says:

Best reason to visit the Rose and Crown Pub, great food and to have a Carl’s Combo Severed by the creator himself and listen to Pam Brody sing!!!!!

  13. Chris Walsh says:

Great to see you at the Rose &’Crown Lou! I am one of the admins for the “Friends of the Rose & Crown” Facebook page! We are heading for 450 members and we are the people who frequent the pub and restaurant on every trip to the world! Carl is a close friend of mine and its great to see the R&C get some much deserved recognition!!!

  14. James G. says:

Currys are very popular in the UK and this dates back to when the British Empire when India was part of it. Curry dishes came back with the army and other visitors and became popular during Victorian times.

I’ve never found the meals in the Rose & Crown to be typical UK food. Its a generalization or stereo type view of the UK. Being from the UK I dont go there except for a quick counter service.

  15. Chuck Zitta says:

I dig the Scotch Egg! Tried on our last trip down, and found it on a menu in Lexington Kentucky on a golf trip last year. Turned it on to a couple buddies of mine on the golf trip. Big hit.

The Sticky Toffee Pudding is tasty as well. Great way to finish off a meal at Rose & Crown Pub.

And of course, the beverages are great too! Now that I know they serve the Scotch eggs up at the bar, I may have to make a stop or two our next time down.

I must add, for dinner our last trip down at Rose & Crown, we were seated outside, which normally is great during the evening hours in Florida. However, it was quite chilly. Even too chilly for us Michigan folks. The wait staff was very kind in finding us an inside table to get out of the cold. I know it wasn’t easy for them to do, yet they did it without blinking an eye. Very impressive.

So now I see why you invited Emma back to do a live review for afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian. She needed to educate you. LOL!!! That was great episode as well BTW. Really enjoy all your live reviews with Emma. She brings a little bit of the UK flavor to the table, which is most enjoyable. Could listen to her talk all day long.

Thanks again for an incredibly appetizing show, Lou and Emma!!!
