Disney From The Twenty-Something: Best Resort Pools At WDW

Caitlin CorselloThroughout the Walt Disney World® Resort there are dozens of individual Resorts which are broken down into three categories based upon price- Deluxe, Moderate, and Value. While some resorts are more expensive than others, they all boast impressive amenities, themes, and most of all pools. So let’s take a look at some of the best resort pools that WDW has to offer and just what makes them so special.

Disney’s Polynesian Resort – Focused around the tropical islands of Polynesia, the ambiance alone at this resort is enough to relax anyone after a long day in the parks. For extra relaxation, check out the Nanea Volcano Pool which features a volcano, waterfalls, and a waterslide along with sweeping views of the beach, Seven Seas Lagoon, and the Magic Kingdom® Park. Calming tropical music is always playing, and at night, the lighting is helped by nearby tiki torches. Within a few steps is also the Barefoot Pool Bar which offers up some delicious cocktails to further help you enjoy the pool.

Disney’s BoardWalk Inn – This resort features the amazing Luna Park Pool which is modeled after a 1920s amusement park. Its waterslide, the Keister Coaster, is two hundred feet long and made to resemble an old wooden roller coaster, complete with a circus clown. Throughout the pool’s area there are elephant statues that squirt water as well as a children’s pool. Also located nearby is the Leaping Horse Libations counter which offers up cocktails, beer, and wine.

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter – This is my favorite resort pool in all of WDW, but I am somewhat biased as I consider French Quarter to be my “home” resort. The Mardi Gras themed Doubloon Lagoon pool brings the jazzy atmosphere of the Big Easy out in its views of the Sassagoula River, alligator statues  playing jazz instruments, water features, and an impressive water slide. The slide is composed of a serpent named Scales being ridden by King Neptune. It spans nearly the whole pool including a small bridge and stairs, and guests slide down Scales’ tongue into the waters below. Located close by there is also a hot tub and Mardi Grogs bar which offers up some pretty delicious margaritas.

Caitlin CorselloDisney’s Coronado Springs Resort – The Dig Site Pool is themed around Mayan ruins and the lost city of Cibola. It boasts a large pyramid with water cascading down its steps, quickly transporting guests to another time and place. The Dig Site features a water slide where guests might encounter a spitting jaguar, and it also hosts the largest hot tub in all of WDW (it holds 22 people!). For refreshments, guests can visit the nearby Siestas Cantina bar.

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort – This is the newest WDW Resort, and it features several different sections themed to classic Disney movies. The most popular pool featured here is the Big Blue Pool which is based upon Finding Nemo and displays several of the movie’s characters throughout the area. It also features underwater speakers so that guests can continually enjoy the music even while they are splashing around. Nearby there is also the Schoolyard Sprayground and Squirt’s Righteous Reef which allow kids the chance to play without getting wet. Also located at the Art of Animation Resort are the Cozy Cone Pool based on Cars and the Flipping Fins Pool based on The Little Mermaid.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort – The Beach Pool at WDW’s flagship resort boasts an impressive water slide and sweeping views of Seven Seas Lagoon. However, it is the newest water addition which caught my attention enough to add the Grand Floridian to my list. There is now a Mad Hatter themed water play area for children which features dozens of ways to get soaked including the Mad Hatter’s hat dumping gallons of water on playing kids below!

Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts – I combined these two resorts as they share one pretty amazing pool area. Stormalong Bay is a three acre poolside playground featuring a lazy river, sand bottom pools, an elevated tanning deck, abandoned pirate ship, water slide, kiddie pool, and three whirlpool spas. If you are looking for the ultimate resort pool area to relax, look no further than Stormalong Bay.

So there you have some of my favorite resort pools located at WDW. As I said earlier, it doesn’t matter whether you are staying at a Value or Deluxe Resort, you are always guaranteed an amazing pool experience and these are just a few of the dozens of pools WDW has to offer. Be sure to let me know which is your favorite resort pool and why, I would love to hear from you!
