To Tell The Truth: The Many Voices Of Jim Cummings

To tell the truthDo you recognize the logo? It’s To Tell The Truth time! I know, intentionally being dishonest to you is not something that I’m very proud of, so I’m going to do a little better this month. Instead of distorting the facts three times and asking you to guess the truth, I’m going to tell the truth three times and ask for you to find the lie! Before we get to that, though, let’s take a look back at last month’s To Tell The Truth.

In last month’s edition of To Tell The Truth, I pondered what the Cinderella Castle Suite was used for before it became the room we all dream of staying in. The options were:  the office for telephone operators, a special location for Walt Disney’s family to visit, headquarters for park security or a conference room used by the Board of Directors and other important people. A lot of you chose correctly when you said Story 1, the telephone operator office, was the right story!

This week we’re going to examine a remarkable voice of Disney. Jim Cummings has been the voice of many Disney characters including Lionel the Lion for Dumbo’s Circus on the Disney Channel who he first voiced in 1985. Among his dozens of voices is the cuddly and loveable Winnie the Pooh. Usually, To Tell The Truth asks you to pick out one truth among four stories. Since Mr. Cummings has lent his voice to so many other Disney characters, I thought we’d switch it up a little. In this edition, I will present four stories about characters that Jim Cummings may or may not have voiced. Three of them are correct. This week, I would like you to tell me which story is incorrect. My question is: Which character was not voiced by Jim Cummings?

Story 1

George Darling is the father to Wendy, John and Michael Darling. If those names don’t ring a bell, maybe you should think about a certain flying boy. No? Still doesn’t ring a bell? Wendy, John and Michael are the lucky children who get to fly with Peter Pan off to Neverland. George Darling is a very strict father who is concerned with his career and likes to operate a tight ship (no pun intended) regarding his family. George is voiced by the same man who voiced Winnie the Pooh, Jim Cummings.

Story 2

Epic Mickey is a video game that takes Mickey out of his element and into a universe where Oswald the Lucky Rabbit is the star of the Disney Company. It is one of my favorite video games EVER because it features Oswald and is a very dark and creepy compared to other Disney video games. Epic Mickey features some of the forgotten characters, like Clarabelle Cow and Horace Horsecollar. Of course, this also means that old villains reappear. Pete used to be one of Mickey’s arch enemies in short films, and is slowly making a comeback today. In Epic Mickey, Pete is voiced by Jim Cummings, who additionally voiced Winnie the Pooh.

Story 3

Kaa is the villainous snake from The Jungle Book who is almost always hungry. One of Kaa’s main missions seems to be hunting Mowgli in an attempt to eat the man-cub as a way to satisfy his hunger. Kaa has the unique talent to hypnotize other creatures using his eyes causing many animals to both respect and fear him. Kaa, the sometimes absentminded and sly python is voiced by Jim Cummings, the very talented man who also voiced Winnie the Pooh.

Story 4

Stromboli is one of the villains in Pinocchio. This puppeteer is very greedy and believes that money is the most important thing in life. Stromboli threatened Pinocchio and kept him locked in a cage to make sure that he wasn’t able to escape, in hopes of selling him someday. Jim Cummings is the voice of both this evil man and a loveable bear.

Okay, Disney fans, you’ve read all four stories. Three of them are correct. This week I would like you to choose which story is incorrect. Listen to all the characters speaking in your head then tell me, which of these stories represents the Disney character NOT voiced by the one and only Jim Cummings? The answer will be revealed in the next To Tell The Truth.

See ya REAL soon!
