A ‘Couple’ Things Disney: A Disney-fied New Home

by Felicia & Sean

Our last trip to Walt Disney World was a special one — being our honeymoon and all — but what made it extra special was knowing that we were coming home to our new home that needed to be filled with … EVERYTHING! From can openers to sofas to shower curtains, to boxes of tissues and TVs, you name it! So, it seemed only fitting that I would do some shopping for our new home while at Walt Disney World. The trick was A.) not trying to buy every household item I saw, and B.) making sure that our home had Disney touches without it looking childish.Felicia1
The first room I wanted to tackle was the kitchen. It’s the heart of the home, and, since cooking is one of my favorite hobbies, it was an obvious choice.

So, off we went to Mickey’s Pantry at Downtown Disney! I was like a kid in a candy store. So many cool items for our kitchen, I didn’t know where to begin. I wanted items that not only were cute, but ones that I would actually use, as well as a good mix of items that could be left out and ones that could be stored in a cabinet or drawer.  I also had to take into consideration how I was going to get these items home. I know I could have them shipped home, but really wanted to make sure they were with me in case I purchased anything fragile and it broke, which actually happened.

See that pink Minnie mug in my photo? We had our merchandise sent to our resort for pick-up at the end of the day. When I received the bag, the mug was broken into a million different pieces. But, the good folks at Disney were happy to replace it for me, no questions asked!

While I loved the assortment of Mickey and Minnie salt and pepper shakers and recipe book holders, they just weren’t practical for me. We had gotten a very nice salt and pepper shaker off our registry and who needs cookbooks when you have the good ‘ol iPhone/iPad to supply those for you? So, what next?

Oven mitts and pot holders!! I needed those! Everyone knows you can’t have too many. To protect my hands from the hot oven, I scored a cute set of Mickey and Minnie pot holders as well as Mickey’s (or Minnie’s) white glove oven mitt.

Now, once you take something out of the oven, you need a place to put your hot pan, so a trivet was needed. I loved this classic metal Mickey face. It’s perfect! After I looked around some more, I found matching bowls. I thought those would be awesome … his and her cereal bowls for when my hubby and I have breakfast together each morning. They had matching mugs, too, but I passed on those. They seemed weird to me because you were drinking out of the bottom portion of Mickey and Minnie. I didn’t feel comfortable drinking my morning Joe out of Mickey’s pants! Maybe it’s just me…

Last on my list: magnetic clips for the fridge. A fridge isn’t a fridge unless you hang stuff on the door! We also needed them to showcase  pictures of our little niece and nephew who are lucky enough to live just an hour-and-a-half away from WDW! So, we found a set of really cute Mickey magnetic clips. Shopping done! I didn’t go overboard, and I got a good assortment of merchandise that would easily fit in my suitcase!

The other mugs and spoon rest in my photo came after our trip, and were recent additions. I love Disney mugs because they are oversized! Regular mugs just don’t cut it for me. Plus, my coffee, tea, or hot cocoa always taste better when I have something Disney to look at when drinking from them.

So, I have to ask, what kind of Disney kitchen accessories do you have? Do you have as much of a hard time controlling yourself when it comes to buying Disney home products as I do? What’s your favorite Disney Kitchen item?

I have to figure out what room to tackle next, so I can shop for that room during our next trip!
