The Many Faces Of Disney: Meet Marc

themanyfacesofdisneylogoIn the past, I have written a monthly series introducing you to the box people. While we always spend Wednesday nights together, it was nice getting to know what some of us do the rest of the week. We all share one thing in common: a love of Disney. That got me thinking:  while “the box” is one group of Disney lovers, there are lots of people who have the privilege of experiencing Disney in different ways. Thus this idea was born. Once a month for the next few months, I am going to introduce you to a “Face of Disney”. These are not box people but people who live out their Disney dreams in different ways.

Today, for my very first “Face of Disney”, I would like you to meet Marc. Marc is a PhotoPass photographer who I met at the PhotoPass Sales Center on Main Street, USA in Disneyland®. He was the amazing Cast Member who hunted for our pictures from Goofy’s Kitchen (a daunting task, I’m sure) then gave us our PhotoPass+ card. I know that I, personally, have often wondered how some Cast Members find themselves doing what they do, and I bet that you wonder that, too. Let’s take a look at how Marc found himself as a photographer.

______________________________________________

When did you first become interested in photography?

I became interested in photography senior year. I was taking a digital arts class and I wanted to use my own photos for composites I was doing. When the class got a DSLR halfway through the year, I took the camera home, starting taking photos and have been taking photos ever since.

Was photography just considered as a hobby to you in the past?

Photography has been both a hobby and a job for me. It started as a hobby but became a skill I marketed right after high school.

What are the requirements to become a PhotoPass Photographer?

There are not specific requirements for being a PhotoPass Photographer. The only requirements are the ones that the Walt Disney Company has for being a Cast Member at Disneyland®.

How long have you wanted to be a photographer?marc

I have been a photographer since about freshman year of college. I wanted to be an animator at Pixar. I saw the camera as a way to make money on the way. I soon noticed I had been doing photography longer than animation.

How long have you been working for Disney?

Since June 2009. So about 4.5 years

What is your favorite part regarding working for Disney?

Meeting guests. I love meeting people from all over the world and all walks of life.

Have you made any lifelong friends since becoming a PhotoPass Photographer? If so, how did you meet them?

I have made a lot of life-long friends working at Disney. Most of my friends are PhotoPass photographers.

Where is your favorite place to be stationed or who is your favorite person to be paired with (character-wise)?

I love being at the Castle because I like having fun with the guest and taking fun photos. I love taking photos of Merida. She is so free spirited I like that about her. I also love her crazy brothers.

What is your most embarrassing moment that has ever happened on the job?

I don’t really have one. I just play off my awkwardness by making fun of myself.

What is the one question you hate being asked?

I hate being asked what’s in the background when I am standing at the Castle or entrance taking photos.

What has your favorite memory been as a PhotoPass Photographer?

My favorite memory, other than meeting your family, happened just the other day. While Merida was feeding Angus I was talking to two little girls (sisters). One was 3 and the other was 7. Well, after talking to them, I decided to play hide and seek with them and Merida’s brothers. I had the girls count to ten and Harris, Hubert and Hamish hid. I knew the brothers hid in the barrels but the girls didn’t. I could hear the brothers laugh then the bears popped up out of their hiding place. The girls giggled and ran over to their mom and told her they found the bears.

So there you have it! The first installment of “The Many Faces of Disney.” Marc is an amazing Cast Member that I met on my first day during my first trip to Disneyland® this past November. I have to say that he definitely is one of the most upbeat and most positive Cast Members that I have ever met. I’m glad that we left a lasting impression on him because he certainly leaves a lasting impression on countless guests (me included – and we still keep in touch). I loved learning more about Marc, and I hope to see him again sometime!
