shopDisney: 2014 Logo Merchandise Inspired by Mary Blair

shopDisney is a bi-weekly blog that will focus on Disney merchandise and products sold in the parks, in Disney stores, and in other retail markets.  We will explore product reviews, affordability, and to whom the products are marketed.  Like any other good product review, we will conclude with a rating scale for several different key components: price, age group, and whether the product is a “must have.”

Logo Mugs2014 is already 4 months old, but I still want to update you on the theme and logo for the year that is featured on all different types of merchandise!

This design is very much inspired by Mary Blair, Disney legend and designer of many headliners on the Disney properties, such as “it’s a small world”® and the mural in the Disney’s Contemporary Resort lobby.  Ms. Blair uses vibrant colors and shapes in her creations, and her artwork is easily recognizable once you have seen one or two pieces.

Doing some research online, I found that the Disney Design Group actually released three designs and that they wanted the public to help choose the final design for the year. The public couldn’t have made a better choice and went with a wonderful design.

What I love is that not everything is the exact same in the coloring and the design, Disney took a basic idea and then changed the colors and the background pictures to be different in some of their merchandise items.Logo Phone Covers

My favorite item in the collection that I saw was the phone cover on the left (I actually purchased this last November when we went down to Walt Disney World®). The reason it is my favorite is that the design is a little brighter, and my mother-in-law actually bought me a tote bag with the same design on it.

Gadget BagsA little explanation of what you see in this picture with all of the bags: top left is a cell phone holder, top right is a small tablet bag, bottom left is a large tablet holder, and bottom right is a laptop bag.  I couldn’t believe that Disney manufactured all of the different size bags for all of the gadgets that we now carry with us, but they wanted to cover all of their bases!

I hope you enjoyed a brief look into the 2014 merchandise, and I hope that you all get a chance to get down to Walt Disney World® to see which items you might like.  Also, if you haven’t ever heard of Mary Blair, do some research. She is an amazing artist, and her artwork is in more places that you would imagine!

As always, have a wonderful week everyone and keep shopping Disney-style!
