Welcome back, Disney fans, to the WDW Radio Disney Book Club!  For this season’s selection, we will be reading together and sharing our experiences and thoughts about Ridley Pearson’s final Kingdom Keepers book, The Insider.

This week, we will be reflecting on chapters 1-9, pages 1-57 of the work.  We have posted some discussion questions below.  Please share your answers in the comments below.  Three people who comment will receive WDW Radio prize packs and will see their answers featured in next week’s newsletter!

But wait! There’s more!  Also each week, Lou will select ONE of the questions and make it part of the discussion in The Box–so check them over and be ready to chat real time with your friends!

Without further ado, here are this week’s discussion questions.  Feel free to respond to one, a couple, or all of them in the comments below.KK7

1. In Chapter 1, we read that Tia Dalma believes, “Who needs hope when there is hate to take its place.” (page 3)  What would YOUR favorite Disney character have to say in response to this?
2. In Chapter 2, Bert is amazed to see his favorite “Imagineer” Wayne Kresky.  He believes “Albert Pujols or Kobe Bryant” would have less of an impact on him than seeing such an amazing Disney personality.  Who is YOUR Disney “rock star”,who is you saw him/her, you would be starstruck?  Why?
3. In Chapter 3, we see Finn at his prom in Walt Disney World.  If you could have (or have had) your prom in WDW, where would you want it to be?  Why?
4.In Chapter 8, Willa thinks, “It’s not what others think of you…. it’s the truth you know about yourself.”  Do you agree with this sentiment?
5. In Chapter 8, Maybeck and Finn end up in a small library in the Archives,  if you could spend only 10 minutes in the Disney Archives, what document would you want to see?

Have fun… as you can see, you don’t have to be on the exact pages we are on to be able to answer!  And be sure to join us in The Box next Wednesday to discuss one of these questions as a group!

  1. DisneyGirlRuby says:

My Prom would go throughout the entire fantasyland! The theme would be (of course) ” happily ever after” and the Colors would be purple, pink and gold. Live music would be playing everywhere and you could go on horse carriage rides! The reason I picked fantasyland is because it’s romantic and magical, exactly what my dream prom would be…<3

  2. erin stough says:

    1. “Fate is kind, She brings to those who love, the sweet fulfillment of their secret longing.” Jiminy Cricket.

    2. I would love to meet Alice Davis and in many ways would be “star struck” to meet her. When you consider what she accomplished during a time when women were expected to stay home, her story is truly one of passion and resiliency.

    3. This is a tough one since there are so many possibilities! I would have loved to have my prom at the Be Our Guest Restaurant (granted, it wasn’t built when I was in high school!) Imagine how much fun it would be to actually dance in the ballroom (of course all the tables would be moved out and there would be a big band. No DJ!) Of course the prom pictures could be with or without the Beast…and it wouldn’t be complete without some real Disney princesses. Plus, we would already be in the coolest place for an after prom party!!

    4. It is important to have a true sense of self – who you are, what your values are, what you stand for. However, it is also important to portray that same self to the outside world. Of course, not everyone is going to like you and that is just something you accept as your mature, but being your true self all the time, not just when it’s convenient is what is most important.

    5. Only ten minutes!? Choosing just one document is very difficult, so I will just put down what first comes to mind! I would love to see concept art/artwork from either The Little Mermaid or Lilo and Stitch. I also wouldn’t mind checking out their physical book library and just staring at all the titles!

  3. Tara says:

If I could only spend 10 minutes in the archives I would want to see any of Mary Blair’s artwork. Or some of the cels from ‘Snow White’.

  4. Dzneychica says:

    1. I think that in response to Tia Dalma’s negative “Who needs hope when there is hate to take its place?”, one of my favorite characters, Winnie the Pooh, would say “Oh, stuff and fluff!”, inferring that she is just ridiculous in her thinking that hate could ever take the place of hope.

    2. I’ve had the opportunity to meet a few of my Disney idols, but the one that I would MOST like to meet is Bob Iger. My dream is to be able to learn from him and someday take over for him!

    3. If I could have my prom anywhere at Walt Disney World, I think I would like to have it in World Showcase at Epcot. Having it somewhere on the Promenade would be fantastic, with a special showing of Illuminations! I think it would be incredibly romantic and unique. Taking over one of the restaurants (such as Cinderella’s Royal Table) would be nothing short of magical, as well.

    4. I do agree with Willa’s sentiment, “It’s not what others think of you, it’s the truth you know about yourself.” Society today is so concerned with looking, acting, being a certain way…what society dictates to be “in” or “ideal” doesn’t exist. Too many people concentrate so much on what the world thinks of them and trying to fit into that mold that they lose who they truly are. We all need to learn to be ourselves first and foremost, and show the world what we’re really made of and what we can do.

    5. Only 10 minutes in the Archives?! Inconceivable! If I could only spend that little bit of time, I would want to spend it looking at Walt’s original drawings…any and all that were there! Or maybe just stare at the original drawing of Disneyland done by Herb Ryman…or rifle through all the unused music from the movies to see what we have missed out on (such as “To Be Free” from Aladdin, which was in the original theatrical release but for some reason isn’t there anymore…only to be found at the stage show in DCA)…or…or…I could just go on and on!!!!

  5. When Tia Dalma mentioned “Who needs hope when there is hate to take it’s place.” and “Who needs even hate when there is hate when there is an attack planned for later this same night.” My response would be The Beast, “She glanced this way I thought I saw and when we touch she didn’t shutter at my part no it can’t be I’ll just ignore but then she’s never looked at me that way before.”
