shopDisney: M•A•C Makeup Turns Evil with Maleficent Line

shopDisney is a bi-weekly blog that will focus on Disney merchandise and products sold in the parks, in Disney stores, and in other retail markets.  We will explore product reviews, affordability, and to whom the products are marketed.  Like any other good product review, we will conclude with a rating scale for several different key components: price, age group, and whether the product is a “must have.”

maleficentAhead of the May 30, 2014 release date of the Maleficent movie (that we are all thrilled to see), M•A•C Makeup has designed a new line of makeup featuring colors seen on the character and movie-branded items that will make any true Maleficent fan happy.  The line has been advertised for many months, but it was finally released last week and, while I haven’t had the opportunity to see anything in stores, I have looked at the small collection online.

Products:

As I mentioned before this is a very small line and only features 12 pieces and includes items like a 4 color eye shadow collection, eyelashes, nail color, nail polish, and other items.  Each product is branded with the iconic Maleficent wings and collection name, making the products very edgy-looking.

What is very surprising is that the colors are dark, but not as bold as I would have imagined.  They mainly featured black and brown items, except for the lip and nail color which also come in a red shade.  I think they should have added some shades of purple and green as I imagine Maleficent also has tints of those to her as well.

M•A•C Makeup is a very well known brand of makeup and is a major step above the Beautifully Disney collection that is offered exclusively by the Disney company.  If you have already tried the Beautifully Disney collection and wanted a higher quality product, then this line might be just for you.  As with any product that is higher quality, the price does go up with this brand, so keep that in mind while shopping.

I still think it’s interesting that Disney allows another makeup brand to sell products under the Disney name when they are trying to market and brand their own line.  Unless Disney knows that they need another well-known company to sell the higher quality makeup as well.

Eye Shadow (4 colors in 1 palette): $44.00

I hope you enjoyed this sneak peek at the new Maleficent line by M•A•C Makeup and that it gives you a small glimpse into some of the ways Disney is trying to promote their new movie.  If anyone tries this new line please let me know how you like it and what products you purchased.  Remember to always keep shopping Disney-style!
