Don Hahn interview Disney

TOPIC: This week I sit down one on one with Disney Producer, Director, Author and maker of magic, Don Hahn. His credits read like a best-of list of Disney filmmaking, including Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Emperor’s New Groove, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I had a chance to interview Don a few years ago, and recently and a chance to sit down with him face to face to talk about his film career, including his recent work on the Disneynature films and Maleficient. He also shares his thoughts of the success of films like Frozen and Tangled, the importance of music, the transition many films have made to Broadway, and how other animated films have transitioned to live action. We discuss what inspires us, story, and much more.

  1. Jim O'Neil says:

Good Lord look at the size juxtaposition there….

  2. Arthur Allen says:

Is that forced perspective, or is that really the size difference?

  3. John says:

It is like a giant and a hobbit 🙂

I mean that in the best possible way, Lou!

  4. Stephen Conti says:

Wow, what an amazing interview. So much of what Don said resonated with me. His insight and way with words is amazing. Thank you, Lou, for bringing that one to us.

  5. While he did some great animated features, I really liked “Waking Sleeping Beauty” which focused on animation when Jeffrey Katzenberg was in charge. The fact that he had the foresight to capture all that footage and put it together is a real credit to him.

You can find it on Netflix.

  6. Jezza says:

Such a facinating interview, loved listening to it. Thank you for bringing it to us Lou. Also, he’s really tall!!

  7. Jon says:

I mean this in the sincerest way possible, has it been resolved whether there was something up with the picture or is Mr. Hahn truly a giant in his field?

  8. Shouldn'tBe says:

    That book is enormous!

  9. Arthur Allen says:

I’m reading Life, Animated by Ron Suskind, about his autistic son who was turned around by Disney movies. Don Hann makes a contribution to the story in an unexpected way.

  10. Chuck Zitta says:

I have the Before Ever After book. Just need to take the time to read it!

Great interview. I’d have to say my two favorite movies from Don would be:

    1. The Lion King: love the father-son relationship and the life lessons it teaches.

    2. Waking Sleeping Beauty: I’m a graphic designer/writer/creative person, so whenever I need some inspiration, I’ll watch this movie. Love it!

Thanks again for an incredible/inspiring interview, Lou!!!
