A Couple Things Disney: Touring the World…one seed at a time

We’ve mentioned many, many times that the best part of going to Walt Disney World® as a couple is trying a new experience every time we go. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary to try, we definitely recommend taking advantage of all the wonderful tours “the World” has to offer.

imageOne tour we highly recommend is the Behind the Seeds tour. If you’ve ever gone on the Living With the Land attraction at Epcot®, you’ve already gotten a sneak peak of the greenhouses and fish farms that feed The Land pavilion, but the tour goes way beyond that. This hour-long tour is a fantastic glimpse behind the scenes (see what they did there?) of not only one of the park’s longest-running attractions but also how thousands of guests each day get many of the veggies on their plates. That’s because much of the food produced in these greenhouses is distributed to several restaurants on property. While much of the tour is dedicated to teaching about sustainable crops and new methods (hydroponics and the like) of growing plants, there’s also a lot of fun involved. If you’ve ever seen a Mickey Mouse-shaped cucumber or pumpkin anywhere on property, here you’ll see how cast members and Mother Nature make these amazing creations! (Spoiler: They use molds and grow the vegetables inside them.)

Admittedly, some Walt Disney World® enthusiasts (like my husband, Sean) might not want to peek behind the curtains at Happiest Place On Earth, for fear that, say, watching how audio-animatronic Abe Lincoln works will ruin the magic. That’s why “Behind the Seeds” is great!

Not only is this one of the most affordable tours on property – it’s just $20 for adults and $16 for kids – it’s also less about Walt Disney World® and more about the actual world in which we all live. If your spouse is a picky eater and doesn’t like eating vegetables (I’m not naming names), this is a great way to get them interested in veggies! (You’ll even get to eat a slice of those Mickey-shaped cukes.) Got a patch of greenery in your back yard and don’t know what to plant? The information you’ll learn here is invaluable and … oh, yeah … fun!

So, have you ever taken the Behind the Seeds walking tour? What about any of the other tours Walt Disney World® offers? Which is your favorite? Leave a comment here and tell us which your you’d recommend and why…

“New Yorkas” Felicia and Sean are avid Disney fans.  Their first vacation as a couple was in Walt Disney World.  They were engaged there, and also honeymooned there.  After a combined 30 trips to the World, they are self-professed Disney travel agents and enjoy helping family and friends plan magical Disney vacations.
