shopDisney is a bi-weekly blog that will focus on Disney merchandise and products sold in the parks, in Disney stores, and in other retail markets.  We will explore product reviews, affordability, and to whom the products are marketed.  Like any other good product review, we will conclude with a rating scale for several different key components: price, age group, and whether the product is a “must have.”

The mention of this might make some of you hate me and resent that I am even mentioning the topic, but I wanted to make sure that you are all aware that some of the Hallmark Christmas ornaments have been released!  I know we are still in the Summer season and most kids haven’t even gone back to school yet, but looking at many of the stores, they already have the Winter holiday decorations going up.

My local Hallmark store informed me that the July ornaments were released but there would be more released in October, November, and December.  That being said, those that you see now may not be available in later months, and you will want to check back for upcoming designs. If I am not mistaken, you can look on the Hallmark website to see when certain ornaments will be released.

Frozen Ornaments:

The Hallmark and Disney artists must have been hard at work after the success of Frozen because they have designed an Elsa ornament that I imagine will sell out in a matter of days, if not hours.  The Elsa ornament will be released during the November month with the last release of the 2014 Christmas collection.

If you just can’t wait until November, then you will have to head to the store in October to welcome the Olaf ornament that will be released during that month’s ornament release.

Whichever ornament you want to add to your collection, you will probably want to get to the store early and get yours before they sell out, and you are left standing in the cold with no Frozen decorations on your tree.

“A Year of Disney Magic” Program:

Hallmark announced this Summer that they are going to have a monthly release of classic Disney character ornaments.  They began in July and will be released each month until June of 2015.  Each of the ornaments are $12.95 and are themed to the month of or next month that they are being in released in.  For example, the ornament being released in September 2014, is a Halloween themed one so that you can have it on display for the entire month of October.

I think this is a wonderful option for people who want to use small ornaments to decorate their homes for the entire year.  You can even make a special holder or tree to hold all of your ornaments that you collect throughout the year.

Alyssa’s Favorite Ornament for 2014Baby Mine 2 - KF

Out of all of the Christmas ornaments that Disney is releasing this year, my favorite is called “Baby Mine” and features baby Dumbo being rocked by his mom.  This one will be added to my personal collection for sentimental reasons.  Last year while in Disneyland®, I really listened to the song with the same name and knew that it would be the song that I wanted to sing to my first baby.  As we are welcoming him before Christmas, I cannot imagine any better ornament that I want on my tree.

Let me know which ornament is your favorite and also any other designs that you think Disney and Hallmark should design for next years collection.  Just keep in mind your Disney-style and passion for Disney while beginning your Christmas and holiday season shopping!

I love Baby Mine as well and it is already sold out in all the stores near me in Canada. Luckily one of my Disney loving friends found it for me in the US.

I could not believe the number of ornaments sold out already in August.

If you have your heart set on a specific ornament get it now before it’s too late.

Last month I made the trek to my local Hallmark Gold Crown store to pick up my yearly Star Wars ornaments (I’ve collected them since the first year they were released). They had for sale a classic three circle Mickey head ornament holder. It’s made of medal and looked like it would hold about 12 ornaments. I so wanted to buy it but it was a bit pricey and I just broke my budget on the Star Wars ornaments. It would be a cool way to display the monthly Disney ornaments.

My Husband (yes that is right) is the one that loves ornaments from Hallmark, so we marked our calendar once again for the July date at our local Hallmark store. We spent what seemed like a small fortune, he was looking for a train series as well as the National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation series, while I went straight to Disney. We reserved the Frozen ornaments that will arrive in October and also purchased “Baby Mine”. Dumbo is one of my favorite characters and this scene is one of my favorite (sniff, sniff) from the movie. Last year during the WDW radio exchange I asked for a Dumbo ornament on my wish list and voila, that is what I got (Thanks Lou!!!!)

I have been collecting the Mickey’s Great “Mouse-“terpieces. LOVED last year’s, which was Mickey as the Brave Little Tailor. That has ALWAYS been my favorite Mickey short. But I LOVE this year’s edition, which is Mickey’s Fire Brigade.

I am so happy that you all are collectors and have already been to the store to see what they are offering. It sounds like the Dumbo ornament might be more popular than they realized. I am sure we all know that the Frozen ones will sell out like the new iPhone:)

Alyssa: my wife Brenda and I brought some ornaments from the Christmas Store at Downtown Disney a few years ago that turned out to be our favorites. They are round, about 4 inches diameter with two small round Mickey ears. They are painted white or red and have small holly leaves and glitter with an area to personalize it with your own words. Thanks for sharing, Dave
