My Disney Roots

In celebration of Walt Disney World’s 45th Anniversary, the WDW Radio Blog Team members are sharing their Walt Disney World “love stories” about the moment they became lifelong fans.

Where did my love of Walt Disney World come from, huh? When did it start? Honestly, it never really started… it was always there! And for that reason, today I want to talk about why I love WDW and how it has changed my life completely. It may only be a theme park to some people, but for me, it’s like a second home.

My mom found out she was pregnant with me while she was on a trip to WDW, so I’ve been visiting since before I was born 😉  But my earliest Walt Disney World memory is from my first trip when I was 16 months old. My dad was holding me as I splashed my feet in the pool at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, having the time of my life. I can remember that scene so vividly, and I can still smell the pool’s chlorine, haha! That memory contains the true essence of what I feel at Disney: pure, innocent, carefree happiness.  Nowhere else do I feel that way, and that is why that memory is so important to me. It’s why I love WDW so much.

disney-roots-rubyI could never choose just one thing I love about the parks, but I think the reason I will always love Walt Disney World is because of the uncontainable joy it brings me. It reminds me of what real life is should be, simple and worry free. When I’m there, I live in the moment like when I was little. The parks radiate such hope, and you really do feel like anything is possible when you’re there. As Walt said, “If you can dream it then you can do it.” That’s what he wanted us to feel as we walked through the parks, and he more than accomplished it.

So overall, I would say my love of Walt Disney World started before I was even born and grew into a way of life, a support system, something that has always been there for me. Since the beginning of my life, the movies, the parks, the music, all of it has been present, and I believe it has helped shape me into the person I am today.
