Lou’s Inbox – Celebrating a St. Patrick’s Day Birthday in Walt Disney World

“I can’t begin to tell you how much I love your show, I listen to it all the time; it brings a little bit of disney Magic to me, all the way to Colorado! I consider myself a total disney nerd, so I decided to celebrate my 21st birthday at WDW. My birthday is on St. Patrick’s day, and I’m trying to find somewhere unique and fun to go for my birthday dinner. I would like something affordable, but something new! My family usually visits the same restaurants (50’s prime time, Ohana’s, Pecos Bill), but I just can’t settle on somewhere for this fun occasion. Do you have any ideas? I’ll want to enjoy a fun drink at dinner, so let me know if you have any ideas of places to get a yummy cocktail. Thanks for your passion for all things disney, I think you’re so special and continue doing what you do! You’re amazing! Thanks, Kristen H. Denver, Colorado”

Exterior of Raglan Road in Disney Springs

Hi Kristen, my name is Joshua, and I’m part of the WDW Radio Blog team. I wanted to help answer this question for you, because my son was also born on St. Patrick’s Day. Although he has quite a few years to go before he turns 21, I’m sure he will also want to celebrate that milestone at Walt Disney World.

The first place that comes to mind when thinking about celebrating a St. Patrick’s Day birthday at Walt Disney World is Raglan Road in Disney Springs. They do charge a $10 cover to all guests over the age of 18 on March 17th, but they have a festival that they host from March 16-March 19 (the only day they charge the cover is the 17th). Taken from the official Raglan Road webpage:

“The mightiest of mighty Irish festivals, Raglan Road’s Mighty Festival kicks off on Thursday March 16 running thru Sunday, March 19. Brace yourselves for a cacophony (big word that) of music so Irish that’s it’s more Irish than any other found in this fair land. Throw in (tho not literally please) a troupe of Irish Dancers with more talent in their big toes than most possess in their lifetime and you have the ingredients for an fun, feisty and fantabulous Festival. A Mighty festival. The only Road to the best of Irish is Raglan Road. With sublime Irish food, an enormous range of craft beers and cocktails, a dedicated Irish store, face painting and much much more.

The craic (gaelic for fun) will be mighty at the mightiest of mighty St. Patrick’s festivals”

Raglan Road Mighty Festival

The festival typically kicks off around lunchtime, and runs through the evening. You’ll get a wristband that will allow you to come and go throughout the day, and there will also be party favors. It’d be like one big birthday party, and you won’t need an Advance Dining Reservation that day. For more information, including a list of performers and soon to be updated times list, visit http://www.raglanroad.com/the-mighty-festival-st-patricks-week

La Vie en Rose Frozen Slushy: Grey Goose Orange, St. Germain Liqueur, White and Red Cranberry Juice

If you’re looking for something a little more toned-down, I would visit Epcot. Since you’ll be there during the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, why not travel the world for your birthday? There will be several outdoor kitchen booths with special menus and small servings of food and adult beverages, from the La Vie en Rose Frozen Slushy (my wife’s favorite) to specialty hard ciders featuring flavors like blood orange or black cherry. What I like to do is start at one end of World Showcase, and travel across, trying one food item and one beverage from each booth. It’s a great way to sample new flavors.

I hope that I’ve given you a couple great ideas for your birthday celebration. I wanted to highlight options that don’t require Advance Dining Reservations because it may be difficult to find one of those this close to your visit. I hope you have a great trip and a fantastic birthday celebration. Happy Birthday from WDW Radio!
