Back in June, something Tim Foster suggested in WDW Radio Show # 450 (Top Ten Things in Walt Disney World Everyone Needs to Do At Least Once) stuck with me — he recommended that one of the experiences we should all do is see IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth in Epcot…from a boat!  It’s true: multiple specialty cruises are available throughout Walt Disney World, and unique among them is a private dining cruise in World Showcase Lagoon during this iconic fireworks and light display.

So, when my family began planning our upcoming trip a few weeks after the broadcast, we asked our Mouse Fan Travel specialist, Kathy Geiger, about the possibility of booking this special kind of event.

When planning, among the six of our party to especially consider was my four-year-old son.  Being that that IllumiNations begins on the late side, a concern which popped up was, “If the kid gets cranky, what would we do if we got stuck on a boat in the middle of a theme park?”   That’s when Kathy suggested an equally intriguing – albeit, “landlocked” — option to the cruise:  private rental of the Bonsai Terrace in the Japan pavilion for an IllumiNations dessert party.

A special occasion to be sure, rental of the Bonsai Terrace is not the cheapest of affairs: space rental is $250, plus tax, and a minimum food/beverage purchase of $200 for a party of six.  But, the exclusivity and access factors are impressive: the terrace, located where the Matsuriza taiko drummers perform by day, is elevated above the Epcot walkways, so we would not have to worry about looking over people’s heads.  The dessert package we chose is a great way to cap off a full day of eating at World Showcase: Mickey Crispy Treats; Double Chocolate Brownies; Salted Caramel Blondies;  Assorted Freshly Baked Cookies;  Seasonal Fresh Fruit Display; Choice of Two Cupcakes (Mini Cotton Candy Cupcakes, Mini Boston Cream Cupcakes, Mini Vanilla Cupcakes with Chocolate Buttercream Icing,  Mini Chocolate Cupcakes with Vanilla Buttercream Icing); Coffee, Decaffeinated Coffee, Selection of Hot Teas; and a choice of one of the following: Hot Chocolate OR Fruit Punch.

We booked the venue, and by the time this post has been published, we will have enjoyed our private party. We are extremely excited to conclude the first evening of our trip with this festive experience.

We think you should consider it, too!
