WDW Tip of the Week: Resort Fun Runs

Not quite ready to run a marathon at Walt Disney World? Try a Resort Fun Run at a Walt Disney World Resort on your next visit! During my most recent trip to Disney’s BoardWalk Villas I came upon a small a-frame on the BoardWalk announcing the inaugural BoardWalk Seaside Sprint. Fortunately, the run was on Friday morning at [8:00] AM and worked nicely into our plans. Having packed our running shoes and clothes, my daughter and I quickly signed up for the event at the Community Hall on Wednesday. The run was only 1.4 miles along Crescent Lake, passing the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Resorts, Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, and ending just past Disney’s BoardWalk Resort. The cost was only $15 plus tax per person and in return we received a cute bib to wear, water, granola bars, bananas, an exclusive BoardWalk Seaside Sprint finisher pin, and a free Goofy Glacier slushy.

One nice thing about this run versus a large runDisney event is that there were only 30 – 35 people participating that morning. Some runners ran really fast, others did a slow jog (it was July in Orlando!), while some walked the entire loop. There were families with children of all ages, some definite athletes, and other Guests just out to have a fun running experience. I even met a fellow WDW Radio Running Team member and her friends before the run.

As a side note, you do not have to be staying at the host resort to participate in any of the Resort Fun Runs. Many of my Orlando area friends pop onto property to run these events. Or, if you are staying on property, you can resort hop over to the resort hosting the run for the day you want to participate. My friend Lisa lives in the Orlando area and ran each of the resort runs one week. Please click here to see her comprehensive review of each of the Resort Fun Runs. These Fun Runs are not official runDisney events and are subject to cancellation or changes and cannot be registered for online in advance of your visit.  I also learned that some resort Cast Members may not know about the runs as they are organized by the Resort Activities Cast Members.

So, my WDW Tip of the Week is to pack your running gear and try a WDW Resort Fun Run. The runs start around [8:00] AM, giving you plenty of time to get ready for a magical day at the parks.

Let me know in the comments below which of the Resort Fun Runs you have enjoyed!
