Disney-MGM Studio Backlot in Burbank That Never Was WDW Radio 589 POST

This week, we will look at one of the most interesting, unique, yet obscure, unbuilt Disney Parks – The Disney-MGM Studios Backlot in Burbank. That’s right, in the mid-80’s officials from the city of Burbank, California worked towards an agreement with Disney to build a theme park, retail, dining, hotel, and studio in their downtown district. We will explore the early genesis of the idea, the dream, the Imagineers who worked on the project, storyline, and very detailed look at exactly what this complex was going to include… including some very odd concepts. Of course, we’ll find out what problems caused this to not only never be built, but led to a longtime (possibly ongoing) feud for the Disney Company, as well as the overall aftermath… and what ideas survived.
