![]() Click here to play or right click on the download icon to download the showHello and welcome to The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station. I am your host, Lou Mongello and this is show #126 for the week of July 5, 2009. Thank you for tuning in once again. Happy 4th of July and my sincerest gratitude to everyone who continues to fight and sacrifice for our freedom. With the opening of the latest refresh to the Hall of Presidents attraction in the Magic Kingdom, this week I have an exclusive interview with Eric Jacobson, Senior Vice President of Creative Development at Walt Disney Imagineering. One of the many talents behind the update, he discusses not only the attraction’s advances and changes, but his visit to the White House, meeting and recording President Obama’s speech, and so much more. This week’s Wayback Machine takes us back to the 80’s when the King of Pop became a Disney character. With the recent passing of Michael Jackson, it’s only appropriate that we do a DSI: Disney Scene Investigation of Captain EO, the extinct Epcot attraction in which he was the title character. We’ll look at it’s origins, the incredible talents who brought it to life, it’s story, music and eventual departure from the parks. I’ll announce the winner of our last “Where in the World Have You Heard This” contest, and give you new clues for this week’s contest for a chance to win a new WDW Radio shirt and more! I’ll play more of your voicemails at the end of the show. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this week's episode of the WDW Radio Show. INFORMATION AND LINKS FROM THIS WEEK'S SHOW Click Here to Talk About This Week's Show in the ForumsCome join the WDW Radio Show Fan Page on Facebook! -------------------------- From Lou Mongello: On the day that this show went live, a tragic accident involving two monorails took place in Walt Disney World around 2:00 am on the morning of July 5. Tragically, a Cast Member pilot lost his life in the accident and at the time of the publication of this show, there were no reported injuries to the few guests on board. As no official information has been released as yet, I will not comment on any other reports, nor speculate at this time. I spent a great deal of time agonizing over just how to deal with this most appropiately on the show, and decided not to comment on it during this episode. I am deeply saddened by this news, and for a number of reasons, even after recording a segment for the show, felt it best to not air it. What I will do, however, is try and allay any fears about the safety of the monorail system by saying that since the introduction of the Mark VI monorails in 1989, there have been zero accidents involving any train collisions, and this is the first and only fatal accident in its almost 38-year history. More importantly, I want to give my heartfelt condolences and prayers to the family of the Cast Member involved, 21-year old Austin Wuenneberg, as well as his friends and co-workers in Walt Disney World. -------------------------- The Hall of Presidents at DisneyWorld.com
