The Dragon at Animal Kingdom???

This question has most probably been asked and answered many times, but I can't find the answer.

Does anyone know why there is a dragon among the other real animals in the symbol for Animal Kingdom as you enter the park? Or is it supposed to be a dinosaur?

It is indeed a dragon and it's because originally Disney was planning a section of the park to be called Beastly Kingdom which was going to include mythical animals.

I know that there are some articles about it on www.allearsnet.com and www.mouseplanet.com . I believe I've also seen some information about it before on Wikipedia. You could always Google it and I'm sure you would get tons of responses. Good luck!

When Animal Kingdom was being built Beastly Kingdom was cut from development due to cost overruns in the budget.

There are 5 animals under the ToL on the logo, the dragon is right in the middle.

Thanks so much Melissa. I did as suggested and Googled it. I found this great article that explains alot. I didn't even know there was a Unicorn parking lot.

Up to the last minute, the Beastly Kingdom would have dominated guest attention as much if not more than the safaris. Then the wonderful Mr. Eisner decided it was too expensive.
