If you do use Resort Airline Check-in, I'd suggest reprinting your boarding documents at the airport on s self-service machine and get actual airline boarding passes. The Disney ones are valid, but can't be read by many airline boarding pass readers. Therefore, your seats must be entered manually as you board and can cause extra time and hold-up in the boarding process.

I concur with the general sentiment in this thread. I've used DME three times now and never had a problem. Two of the times were for Pop Century, and although the driver said he'd be making three stops, we were the first ones both times. The other was for All Star Music, and then we just had to go to All Star Sports first, which is right next door.

Another great tip is that if you arrive at your resort before official check-in time of 3pm, go to the checkin desk anyway. If a room's available, they'll give it to you. If not, they'll give you a room key card which will eventually be activated to the room you do get, and a phone number to call. You can call from your celphone or from any Guest Services phone in WDW. You'll also get a map of your resort, so that when you call the number after 3pm, you can identify where your building is. Then take your carryons over to Luggage Services, and tell them you're checking in. They'll ask your name and give you a receipt. Then you can hop on the busses to go to the parks or DTD. When you get back to your resort that evening, head straight for the room you were given on the phone. Your keycard will be activated for that room already, and both your checked luggage from DME and your carryons from Luggage Services will be waiting for you in the room!

I really enjoy the bus transportation you don't have to take your car and fight for a parking space. You can just take the bus and go straight to the parks.

Thanks for all the advice. I feel much better about my decision to skip the rental car. I am sure that the transportation within the park will have it's moments of headaches, especially with tired kids. Luckily my kids are 10 and 13. But, it sounds like the Magical Express is a can't miss. Leave it to Disney to make it such a pain free experience.

Indeed - you also never have to bother taking a tram once you've parked. At Epcot, MGM, and Animal Kingdom, depending on how far back into the parking lot you've parked, you must walk from your spot to a tram stop, then take the tram to the front gate. At Magic Kingdom, you have to walk from your car to the tram stop, take a tram to the TTC, and then either a monorail or ferry from the TTC to the Magic Kingdom.

When you take Disney transportation, on the other hand, you're taken right to the front gate at all four parks.

Personally I don't mind the tram ride from the parking lot to the gate, in fact, we had the best tram ride ever just last week when leaving MGM I think it was, when we got on, the CM announced that we had just boarded the party tram, the driver then proceeded to drive us to our cars in a zig zag and taking turns at a whopping 5 miles per hour, it was a blast! (I actually had to hang on).

I have used Magical Express and the WDW bus system my last two trips and have zero complaints. The longest we have ever waited for a bus was about 20 mins. The only negative is that you dont have immediate access to your luggage, but you can always bring your necessaties in a carry-on.

We too Love the Magical Express. We have used it every trip since it has begun. If only our airline (Spirit Airlines) was a part of it, our round trip experience would be just fantastic. Never a problem Very friendly cast members. Very friendly Drivers from Mears Transportation as well. The 30 min. or so bus trip is very comfortable and enjoyable with the short video that they show. Gets you in that "Disney" mood.
As far as the Disney transportatiion goes, overall, I would say that it is a very smooth running system. With the new GPS system coming on line starting as we speak. Or Read. LOL, they will see where more buses are needed. They are going to add cameras to the bus stops as well and get an idea where extra buses are needed. when You think about the amount of resorts and parks that Disney needs to supply buses to, You have to understand that they will not always be running as perfect as all of Us would like them to run. Sometimes, You may have just missed a bus and will be waiting the longest time, because of it. You do have to admit, they are clean, comfortable, and kept cool in the warm florida heat.
With the new system they also have automated announcements that make understanding them much easier than some of the drivers. also, they will announce the bus stops in the resort that you are arriving at and will make it much clearer about what's coming up next. Again, with some drivers, You have no clue what they are saying and may miss your stop.
All forms of Disney transport seem to be organized very well and has always been a pleasure. One thing We have to remember, is that some people can never be pleased and will think there is something wrong with everything. You need to just stop and smell the flowers and just remember that you could be home at work or school instead of waiting for bus at the Happiest place on earth!

IF You really want Your bags with You right away, if Your room is ready, You can always leave the yellow tags off of the bags and just take them on the bus with You. A bit of lugging around, but you have no wait for the bags. Just as a side note. The last two trips on the Magical Express, the vidio was not working and for new riders, I felt bad that they missed seeing the video.

    Rental car

Love the magical service bus. The do say OH, TWO HOURS! Forgetting that there are stops at all the other value hotels yet to load and that takes a long time, then traffic... Especially some of the check-in areas with only two agents working.
Our friends flew US Air a month or so ago for a 7:00PM flight, and got there three hours early, dropped rental car, and still did not get through the ticket line!
Always have a plan B, they ended up sleeping at the airport for the morning flight out.

Our last trip we could Pre-check in at the hotel, right to security and the gate. This time we have to go to the ticket counter.

Our last trip in October 2006 as is still available, EXPRESS had 50% off weekend rental starting THursday. I rented a super clean Nissan Sentra for about $13 a day, total $60 I decided to keep for Monday and we went to a dinner theater show which was great too. The cars was wonderful for a run out to get fast eats at Mickey D's near the Value Sports Resort, a run to town to Walmart for water, drinks, milk and cereal, snacks etc. Even a forgotten bathing suit and refill a perscription. For less then a taxi, this agency picks you up and drops you off! If you do not have a credit card , using a debit/bank card, you do need a deposit on hold with them with the card. It is returned with the return of the car.

I highly recommend. I think they are located on Disneyworld Drive, perhaps the Wydham Hotel property?

We absoutely LOVE Magic Express! We won't go to WDW without it now that we have used it. If we need to go off property, we rent a car from National Car rental. You can use WDW transportation to get there as well. We love the transportation on property - the only thing I do say about it is ALLOW TIME to get anywhere you want to go. We have had some good and some poor situations. We missed Spectro Magic the first time I wanted to see it because the bus never arrived to take us there. Other times we have been the only ones on the bus! It is completely hit or miss on the consistency with the buses and boats.
