I agree...fab film. What do they decide in the end?? Is he a dog? Looks more like a cow to me.
But he wears a hat and drives a car!
Glad someone knew what I was referring to, or I might've just looked mad!
They don't decide in the end, they just agree it's weird!
I was reminded of it because I did actually find the answer myself the other day. Goofy was originally going to be named Dippy Dawg.![]()
Goofy is a dog, much in the same way Mickey is a mouse and Donald is a duck. They are very cartoon-ized versions of their various species; basically humans with animal characteristics.
Pluto represents a real dog in appearance and characteristics. He is Mickey's pet and actually acts like a real dog.
Goofy was known as Dippy Dawg from his first appearance in Mickey's Revue in 1932 and throughout numerous appearances in the Mickey Mouse comic strip. The "Goofy" name took hold a couple of years later when he emerged along with Donald as Mickey's primary co-stars. In the 1955 episode of Disneyland, The Goofy Success Story, it is very tongue-in-cheek "revealed" that when he signed his first major contract, the studio suits insisted on the name change to the more marketable "Goofy".
I remember on another website there was a debate about how the Goofy/Pluto difference was actually a pro-slavery thing. But I like Jeffcot's theory better.
All the people will look up and shout: "Save us!" and I'll whisper...'no'.
Who watches the watchmen?
To answer your question, for verification, show # 17, with Lou and Jeff (Pepper) did a story on Goofy since it is his 75th birthday.
Goofy is also a dog, but he took on a broader generalization. In the early 60's-70's, the creators gave him an alter ego and called him George O'geefe. All of this is on the WDW Radio Show Podcast. To listen to the whole story, and for the interesting facts that I have omitted, check it out, the show is ALWAYS amazing, and this show is no different

I would say goofy is a dog
My first thought was that Goofy is my husband especially when he is at Disney. Seriously though, I think he is a dog, though I agree that he looks more like a cow. My girls love that Goofy Barnstormer ride in Toon Town. Of course, they are getting a little old for it.
